my wife wants to buy souvenirs for all our friends and family for christmas, so we're going to seoul for that. any suggestions on where to go? i don't know exactly what we want, mostly traditional korean stuff, preferably small and light. doesn't matter where either, we live in Mokpo, so we'll only be there for a day or two.

Go to Insadong. They have all kinds of the stuff that you are looking for.

Get off the subway at "Jongno 3 (sam)-ga" It is a transfer where lines 1, 3, and 5 meet.

In Namdaemun market there is a building that sells all the Korean souvenirs you can handle.

We're talking lacquered wooden boxes, mother-of-pearl jewelry cases, hanbok in all sizes, marriage ducks to hang on the wall, Bae Yong-Joon crap, lamps made from paper, coasters with traditional scenes, pens, miniature masks, pictures, scrolls etc. etc. etc.

Prices are better than the same stuff in Insa-dong, and negotiable. You can also have name stamps made up there,

which are a good gift for between 10-40,000 won.

If you're pushed for time, then Insadong (near Jong-no-3-ga station) also does great souvenirs with less wading through the huge packages of seaweed for Japanese tourists.

For my money though, the present to beat is still a football shirt with your name printed on the back in hangeul

and for that you have to go to Dongdaemun Market.

I also recommend Lotte World, because you can't send pottery back for everyone. You can get all sorts of keychains, hair clips, magnets, cell phone attachments, etc, that will always remind me of Korea.
