Here is the info from Wikipedia. (Heads up Mith!)

Quote:
Pepero Day is a holiday in South Korea similar to Valentine's Day or Sweetest Day in the West. It is named after the Korean snack food Pepero, and is celebrated on November 11, since the date "11/11" looks like four sticks of Pepero.

According to the story, Pepero Day was started in 1994 by students at a girls' middle school in Busan, where they exchanged Pepero as gifts to wish one another to grow "as tall and slender as a Pepero." However, it is more likely it was really created by Lotte, the company which produces Pepero.

The holiday is observed mostly by young people and couples, who celebrate it by exchanging gifts of Pepero, other candies, and other romantic gifts.

In Japan, a "Pocky Day" was held on November 11, 1999. Since 1999 was the 11th year of the Heisei era, the date consisted of all 1s, and so resembled 6 sticks of Pocky. It is unknown if this day was based on Pepero Day, though Korean sources claim it is so.

Whether or not the day is the product of a clever marketing scheme, it may still be fun to participate. For those who don't know what Pepero ( ) is, they're long sticks of some graham-like cookie, dipped in chocolate. I went to HomePlus tonight with another teacher and there were three giant displays of around 20 varieties of Pepero, at varying prices. The ones I bought were W 3,500 for about 25 sticks.

Anyway, just thought I'd let ya know, if you want to do something fun for your adoring, salaciously studious youngins this Friday.

Cheers,
Q.

There aren't many other days in the year when I see my kids so worked up. Maybe the day before Children's day. It's a mixture of joy and "can you all just shut up for ten seconds and put away your stupid peppero?"

Ahhh Pepero Day was so fun. I got a huge stack of Pepero from my students. I'm glad those things are so delicious.

God I love Peppero Sticks. I am heavily addicted to those things and eat at least one box a day. But hey they are cheap and taste so damn good.

I wish everyday was peppero day.

You know, about 10 or so years ago, I remember being told not to eat these chocolate covered sticks because they had cancer causing agents in them.

Did anyone hear of the same thing?

Joe, I hate to be the one to tell you this, because I really like you. But your new avatar is gay. And yeah, Pocky is better.

Well, what doesn't cause cancer except cancer medication. And who knows, probably someday they'll find out that causes cancer too.

I've officially eaten so much Pepero that it makes me nauseous to think of them.

First of all, what kind of an insult is "gay"? Second of all, how do you like my new new avatar... showing both sides of Joe, I should say.

Are they both you? Because that's way cool if it is. I mean, it's cool if it's not too.. but yeah that's a cool idea.
