Warnings by the South Korean government that it may ban movies depicting school gang violence have aroused outrage among local filmmakers. Film journalist Oh Dong-jin told the English-language Korea Times that the government had chosen to make movies a "scapegoat in solving the problem of violence at schools. The solution for school violence should be found in school education." Earlier in the day legislator Jee Byung-moon observed that "millions of students" had watched the hit movie Friends, about a school gang and warned that some might "imitate such violent behavior." He warned that if the government finds that such films "disturb prevention of violence at schools, we'll prepare proper measures by revising related laws." But Jonathan Kim of the Korean Film Producers Association observed that Friends had a rating barring anyone younger than 18 from seeing it. "And it is the authorities that neglected stopping students from watching [it]."

its funny.. I mean come on!! like this is ever gonna happen..
I wonder what life is like in north korean schools..
cant be worse than American high schools, where kids shoot each other, sell and do drugs, have sex, fight , and pretty much do every other criminal act there is.. every country is pretty much similar of course without the guns..
I ws visiting my Italian friend during the summer in italy and I went to his high school to check out high school life in Italy.. HAHAHAHA man!!!
I think I had either been out of high school to long or been in korea to long.. that day we went on a little field trip to the local piazza to watch some BS event.. anyway at the event many of the kids started lighting up cigerettes and even coming over to my friend and asking. Excuse teacher do you have a light?
IM like WTF!!!
he is like sure!! then off she goes.. dressed like she was out clubbing last night and hadnt got changed yet.. looking around all of them were smoking im look for the other teachers.. they are all just looking not giving a sh*t.. hahahah and then!! one kid walks past us and says
hey guys anyone want to share a beer with me in the cafe?
im like WFT!!! I look at my friend and say what is going on?
he says what??
im like come on man!! they are all freely smoking and gonna drink etc..
he replys.. what? they probably smoke at home with their parents anyway. this is Italy!! not f**king USA hahhhaahhaa
I was like in KOREA a teenager would be beaten hard if caught smoking,
he said.. well whats the point! they are going to smoke right after they are beaten anyway aint they! and prbably that same guy who holds the stick smokes, and did so also when he was his age!! F**king hyprocits
hahahahahhaha
im like yeah so true..
I guess being in korea and only seeing the korean way of school life for so long I forget that the rest of the world is different..
I wonder how north korea is...
and regarding the movie with local gangs..
man have you see most of the smash hit movies in this country are about the Jjang who beats everyone up, or a hero who beats up the Jjang, or a gang who beat up teachers.. blar blar blar.. wonder where the writers get their thoughts of material from |

Any country that could potentially ban American History X is okay in my books.
...though I'm wondering what they mean by school violence. Films that take a sober look at the problem are necessary, especially with the way this country's going. |

One of my students was writing an essay about school violence in Korea and from her perspective much of it is the fault of the Japanese and their violent comic books:
"Once source of influence on school violence is violent animation - comic books and films from Japan. at that time, Japanese use ȸ in Japan. The word was brought over into Korea
After this, many violence groups formed in Korea. At the present time, there are approximately 2,000 violent groups in elementary, middle and high school in Korea (according to the Korean Times). "
So perhaps if they can just ban those evil foreign ideas all in Korea will be peachy again, with violence left up to only the teachers. |
