I have gotten plenty of help and ideas from dave's, so i want to share this game i played yesterday that worked really well. I used it for an after school class (3:40-5:20) of middle school kids, 14 kids in the class.
it is based off of a drinking game back home, i have heard it called kings, and circle of death, and i am sure there are plenty more names.
everyone sits in a circle, and i spread a deck of cards out on a table. each card has an assigned task. students, one by one, pick cards and must perform the task. i give them 3 "life" counters. if they fail, i take one life. the tasks i chose were:
2-say the alphabet backwards (first student says Z, and picks direction, next sudent says y...)
3-category-students picks a category, next student must name something in the category, this continues without things being renamed.)
4-rhyme
5-pick a letter (student picks a letter, and direction, students must say a new word that starts with that letter)
6-translate to korean (i say something in english, they translate)
7-translate to english
8-sing for 10 seconds
9-dance for 10 seconds
10-humm for 10 seconds
J-answer a question i give them
Q-free turn (nothing)
K-get one life
A- steal one life from another player.
they absolutely loved it, and it can be as hard or easy you like it. shy kids can do things like hum, and outgoing kids can sing. smart kids get difficult questions, slower kids get easy questions...
anyways, enjoy...
oh- i gave the winner candy of course... |

Sounds like fun - wonder if there's a way to make it work with 25-30? |

I was thinking about that, to use in my regular classes, maybe just make teams... anyone on the team can perform the required action. any other ideas... |

That would probably work best at high school and middle school. They're much more comfortable doing something in teams, anyways. |

Hum what?
Sing what?
Dance. What?
Time waster. Naaaaah!
I would have to see it though. I'm going to remember this thread so I can think about that.
I do, however, like the "steal a life" thing because I'm working on making a game like "Assassin". |

It's a board game I played back home. It's funny 'cause you could be out right away. Google it. I've only played it a couple of times at parties. |

I'm going to check and see if I can get that the next time I go to Yongsan. It looks wicked. *sigh* ...now if I only had some friends |

I just wanted to say that I tried my game with my normal class (about 35 students) and just put them into six groups (because that is how my room is set up). It worked great. the only problem, a bit of talking, but i just refused to remind them what was happening if they were talking, so sometimes they would just lose one life by not paying attention. they learn the lesson quick. and the other problem is they always want to play rock-paper-scissors to see who has to dance or sing, so i gave them a 10 second time limit to start. enjoy |
