I went to immigration to get my degree verified. Did anyone else notice that the sign right at the front door incorrectly says to bring your 'transcripts' instead of 'degree'?
That one freaked me out momentarily. Had I not known that other foreigners had done this with just their degree, it might have made me turn around and go home to get them!
Typical immigration stupidity. |

Which immigration office did you see this sign? |

Here it is. It's right on the front door of the Omogkyo immigration office:

I saw it too. What amused me the most was having my degree scrutinised by a lady who was knitting a pink scarf and who I don't think is trained to spot forged documents although she did do a good impression of such a person. |

Apparently, the picture supports what I was saying in another thread. Foreign residents (F2-1 visa) simply don't have to play along with this charade. The form is for E2 holders. Since September 25, 2005, immigration is not concerned with the employment of foreign residents. Contact your local immigration office and make this point clear to them. |

WHY?
Why try to mess things up for anybody else?
At least some people (the F holders) don't have to play along with this charade, and you want to bring other people down? Why? |

Funny...
They didn't require anything of me other than handing over the paper. They didn't ask to see my transcripts, degree, nor any type of ID.
Whole thing seems a bit pointless to me. |

At this point I should like to remind everyone where they are... I also officially nominate this as the official motto of the Immigration Services. Any seconders? |

Not me.
Korean immigration is a breeze compared with, for example, US. |

Wangja, I think we are all now well-aware of your extreme hatred of US immigration policy.
When are you going to spill the beans about your own personal experience? And please tell us if you expect immigration rules to tighten in the UK after recent incidents? |

It's not extreme hatred it's just unreasonable for someone to complain about hard Korean immigration is when the complainer's is even harder.
No I do not expect any changes to UK immigration policy as it is already extremely hard for a non-EU citizen to get a work permit. Just as it is in the US. Much harder than in Korea ..... |

I should add too that I have dealt with immigration offices in the following countries-
Kuwait
Holland
Algeria
Saudi Arabia
Brazil
Portugal
Congo, Brazzaville
Nigeria
Greece
Egypt
Taiwan
and Korea is, by a long way, the easiest.
As to experience with US, I have come close - I was offered a job in Houston, with E2. (I turned it down 'cos the pay was carp, just barely 6 figures). The company reckoned it would take 3 months to get the E2 (I think that's the general working visa in USA) in London.
Also, my wife has a permanent green card and I could I suppose get one too if I were happy to make a charitable contribution to the US Treasuary every year on my worldwide income. As a pertinent aside, US tax rates plus health costs make UK tax rates look reasonable. |

One of the teachers at my school went yesterday. She said the whole process only took two minutes. She asked the guy she was dealing with if they were going to call the uni's and confirm that the degrees were genuine. He said no cos that that would be too expensive. |
