I've just bought a second hand pc, it had a fresh install of windows but its professional and not corporate and now it says I have 30 days to register.
Any way to get around this?
I'm also having big issues with the DVD drive. Trying to install something brings up the error:
only part of a readprocess memory or writeprocess memory was completed
Trying to copy things across and I get the error
"Failed cyclical redundancy check"
Any hints on WTF is going on? I fear I have bought a turkey!

| Well, I dunno if the copy is legal, I think it was obtained at Yongsan so I'm doubting it. Where can u buy a legit copy? How much is it? I already have 2 copies of Windows legally, one in England and the other on my laptop, surely I dont have to buy it AGAIN. |

windows blows ... install ubuntu linux instead.
as for the redundancy check, it sounds like your harddrive might be in trouble. Try one of the harddrive checker tools, you'll have to find something on the web that works with windows.
Give it a quick once over to see that it's not corrupted or anything. |

Well I think I've resolved the issues.
I got WPA_Kill.exe which is supposed to cancel the registration aspect of Windows, fingers crossed its worked and not just hidden the registration.
The DVD drive stopped giving me error messages when I went and changed the ATAPI settings to PIO? Whatever that means, the windows support page guided me through. It works now.
Finally the cyclical check I've put down to a few dodgy DVDs. I tried one on my lappy and it gave me a similar error, but it just said it couldnt access the drive. Regardless I've copied across a number of proggies now with minimal hassle.
I think its finisheed. Fingers crossed. |
