I use iTunes exclusively, I can't think for the life of me what kind of problems or hassles it causes. In regards to iTunes and the iPod, you plug in the iPod, it shows up in the iTunes menu and you drag your songs into it. If you have a special playlist, just grab the playlist and it will import it as it is on your computer. You can set the preferences to import songs from cds as an AAC (Apple's format) or Mp3 and set the quality. With the newest version you can even change Equalizer settings on individual songs. I don't know if Winamp has the same kind of flexibility, maybe it does, but I've been using iTunes since version 1 and have really never had an issue.
If there's some specific question you have, let me know. And I could have told you there were microphones for the iPod.
