There is a movie coming out that I think you might want to avoid. Its called The Descent. I read the book and it is a good sci fi action page turner. The author is a climber and has a good background for the material he covers so that stuff went well but I read the reviews for the film and it seems they lost about 65% of the book. Not a good move.

The humans find out Hades exists and they send a crack team of Hades fighters to Hades. Hades isn't quite the place of fire, torment, suffering and metaphysics but its still pretty bad and Satan wants to be in charge again.

----
About the book - Jeff Long
In a cave in the Himalayas, a guide discovers a self-mutilated body with the warning "Satan exists". In the Kalahari Desert, a nun unearths evidence of a proto-human species and a deity called Older-than-Old. In Bosnia, "something" feeds upon the dead in mass graves. So begins mankind's shocking realization that the underworld is populated by another race of beings—and they are waiting to be found.

I'm sorry, I was wrong. The movie is very good. I haven't seen it but i've read the reviews. the reviews are all very good. The film has an all female cast except for the monsters. So the book and the movie are good.

Confused
This is wierd... I wanted to see this movie when it came out (in the summer) but the reviews on Metacritic (a compiled average of all online reviews, usually pretty darned accurate) were not good at all so we passed on it. Noww I'm trying to find those reviews again and I can't...
And to top it off the IMDB seems to be giving it a decent enough rating (7.5/10).
So, WTF?
Going to see if I can find it in the video store.

This is probably the major thing I admire about your posts. Knowing absolutely nothing about a topic does not prevent you from expressing a view. Not everyone is as willing to parade their ignorance.

The lesson learnt here is never, ever compare a movie to a book. They're two very different artforms and experiences.

I always wince when people say, "oh, but the book is much better".....snobs.

Hey, at least he's honest about it.

Oh, Ya-Ta boy. So old, so lost and over here with the desperates. Surrounded by conservative Christians and the most racist regime since South Africa and you help little Jin-ho get into a good school and get more more power so he can act more racist. What were those people called, those people that sold materials to Nazi Germany? Wasn't it cool when MTV and the like had end-aparteid concerts. That was the day, huh? Nowadays we just sell out like tired old whores. You don't even have the decency to post references. When you make assertions, you must post proof. You didn't do that. You just have bad ethics. You and Korea are a match.

The book is really good. It covers alot of material and its very complex because of it. To make that into a movie would take petroleum tankers of cash. The book and the film have very little in common other than both have monsters and both take place in a cave. the movie. although very different, is very good.

Goyer Adapting THE DESCENT
-
DAILY VARIETY reports David Goyer (Blade I & II, Zigzag)
will direct an adaptation of the Jeffrey Long sci-fi
horror novel THE DESCENT.
The film tells the story of a group of scientists on
an exploration 6 miles beneath the Earth's surface,
who encounter a new species that may have been the
basis for stories about Hell.

The movie is very good too but they took the minimalist approach ie less special effects and more suspence techniques. There is almost no link between the book and the film other than the marketing weight from the books title. Again, both are very good.

As far as the gore genre goes, I thought it was an excellent movie. Watching it by myself at three in the morning with all the lights out probably helped, but I'm sure I would have liked it nonetheless. Recommended.

The question you should be addressing is why you are so desperate.

No argument there. But you conclude from that that everyone else is. Another sign of loserdom.
