One of my odder moments teaching in korea happened today. It was break time and I was out in the hallways when a trio of boys started singing to me. Now, that was weird, but what was weirder was the song. They were singing George Thorogood's "Bad to the Bone" What the hell?
Still, damn funny |

While we were singing today, two 5th grade boys suddenly jumped up and started doing the foxtrot together.
Earlier in the day, a 6th grader went completely psycho and started screaming and smashing his chair on the floor. Everyone in the room, including the co-teacher and myself, backed up a good five meters and wouldn't go near him until the homeroom teacher arrived.
And I swear to God, this was just TODAY!
And the day ain't over yet. |

Yeah, I teach a couple boys with definite anger management issues. Nice to see some things are the same as back home. |

The other day we were doing Directions and I got the students to write a role play. Two boys came to the front to perform their role play and they ended it saying, I love you to each other. Bless them. |

I have a student whose tastes run a little classier. He sings the Queen of the Night's aria from the "Magic Flute," Eine Kleine Nachmusik, and Pachelbel's Canon in D. Sometimes he gets other students singing with him. I sometimes wonder whether I have an English class or a music appreciation class.
I wonder whether he learned those compositions from symphony concerts or from TV commercials. |

| Thursday, I realized that I say the same thing in the same way too much. A student asked me where her workbook was and another immediately chimed in, "It's in the cubby, honey," mimicking me to perfection. I crawled under the desk, had myself a good laugh, and then managed to continue class. |

There's a middle school class with four students. 15 or 14 years old. One was Rachel but changed her name to Paris, in honour of Paris Hilton. One guy, Daniel, is a real character. I mean 'only in Korea'. He looks sort of like PeeWeeHerman. Has this funky, curved, shiny-helmet hairdoo and rarely talks but when he does it's quick and nerdy. I look forward to getting to know this character.
They're all funny. The stuff kids do and say just cracks me up. |
