| They are advertising a position that sounds almost too good to be true. I mean the pay rate seems standard, but the vacation time (four months) is what seems "out of whack!" Granted, I have never worked for a university before so this may indeed be standard. |

I have a copy of the contract, and articles 9 and 14 are a bit conflicting...
Article 9 (Vacation) : "B" shall have 4 months paid vacation.
Article 14 (duty during the vacation) : "B" is required to teach one month out of 4- month vacation for the programs that will be done during the vacation. The program partly includes the teaching of Kid's English.
And here's some other fun stuff...
If you renew your contract for the 2nd year, you will receive 100,000 won increase, that is, 2,100,000 won per month. However, if you stay more than 2 years, your salary will remain the same as the salary of your 2nd year contract(for example, if you renew your contract in the 3rd year, your salary will be the same as the 2nd year).
Article 12 (Severance Pay) : "A" will give "B" severance pay one month after completion of this contract according to the Korean Law concerned. "B" living in the housing (off-campus) provided by "A" is required to deposit 300,000 won to the school from severance payment for utility fees and after payment of said fees, the rest of the amount will be refunded to "B".
And it's just funny that they feel they have to say this...
Do not go to coffee shops with students during scheduled class times except during the first week or final week of the semester.
It's not horrible, though. From the stipulations in the contract, it's obvious they've had problems in the past with foreigners. |

What a stupid thing to put in a contract.
That one month of teaching during one of the four months of holidays better be overtime. I suppose it would be another 2.1 million on top of the 2.1 milion vacation pay. That's would be sweet. 4.2 million in one month. |

Actually I know of 1 or 2 university teachers who take classes of 25 students to a coffee shop for "free talking" - that's not teaching and I can clearly understand why that could be in the contract. Shouldn't have to be explicit about something like this but some people need it. |
