Hi all,
I'm busy putting together a presentation on teaching methods. Thinking a little levity might make a point so I am looking for a copy/dvd or just a movie clip of the scene in Stripes (right at the start) where Bill Murray is teaching English and loses his job...
Anyone remember it? Have the clip to send/share? If you haven't seen the movie.....watch it! It's a classic....

Maybe you need to watch it again. Bill Murray's character, John Winger, wasn't an English teacher. He lost his job as a cab driver. His friend, Russell Ziskey (Harold Ramis), was the ESL teacher. |

Yes, I have to watch it again! Been a long time and thanks for correcting me. It is all coming back.......especially the song.......
Demonicat, I am trying to download a clip. We'll see if it works, I'm not that high tech and there are probably better sites to use...we'll see if I'm successful. I'll send you a message if I'm desperate!

You might try to find the first skit performed on Saturday Night (Live) (way back in 1975ish), where Michael O'Donohue is teaching an Eastern European immigrant (John Belushi) English. It starts out with appropriate phrases, then goes to things like 'A wolverine is eating my leg', and ends with the teacher having a heart attack and the student repeating what he does.
It's funnier than it sounds. |
