|
|
| My public school doesn't have any materials for me to teach with and the classes are very large. (40-45 students generally) I've been making worksheets and other materials for awhile now but have been getting tired of that. I would like have the students work on conversation/talking/listening as that may be the best choice for such a large class with only 40 minutes. Any suggestions for good books? This would help me to limit my search of books. Thanks |

| Fifty-fifty is good, but First Hand is better. Lots of pair work and dialogue...plus, it gives the better students an opportunity to expand! |

New Interchange 2
My students dig this book, comes with video and CD's
16 long units more than enough for a years worth of teaching.
Each unit has approx 12 exercises.
Highly recommended! |

Is this large enough?
But seriously...
You don't need a book as much as you need a METHOD. The CELTA approach works well for large groups. Give them tasks to do in pairs and small groups, then have them report back the results to the group as a whole (e.g., find out about each others hobbies, favourite fruit). I haven't needed a book of any kind since taking the celta course. I recommend it for those who teach large groups and will continue to do so for years ahead. The basic idea is to get them doing communicative tasks after a model is presented based on a theme/subject/focus of the class that day. |

VanIslander, nice book, got a bookholder for it?
Actually, I am doing some group work where students have to talk about things and tell the rest of the class what they learned. I haven't been CELTA trained so I don't know exactly what ideas you have. I am thinking about group work because it seems to fit well. |
