I second that. Stay away from LCI. I had a really bad experience at an LCI my first year in Korea. Poor curriculum, poor attitude towards discipline, treated the teachers extremely poorly, etc., etc. Not sure if YES Youngdo is hiring, but that was a great school to work for in 2002...

Don't know anything about that school, have heard both good and bad about LCI.

However I would question why some places it states that overtime is after 120 hours, and other times it is at 130 hours.

Then, the reality that 120 hours a month is a LOT of work...

The contract alone looks pretty good, very professional. However I noticed in section IV.2. it says
Quote:
Any time worked over 120 hours per teaching term (session) is deemed overtime. Only classroom contact hours in excess of over 130 hours per session approved by the Program director are considered overtime.

These two sentences are redundant and contract each other. Anything beyond 120 should be overtime, whether or not "approved by the Program Director".

Section VIII is touchy, you don't want to negotiate it because you know, just mentioning it is suggesting the contract might not be completed, but I really don't like this sentence:
Quote:
In the event of termination of contract, employer will not provide a letter of release to the teacher, unless negotiated otherwise.

Why not? They can reserve the right to write a nasty letter, but they should write a letter if they fire you.

ITs a crap contract written with only the interests of the institute at heart.

Quote:
16. Working hour is from 9:30AM ~ 7:00PM, during students vacation, working hour begins at 8:50 (summer and winter vacation time: one month each) and the early class will be given on voluntary basis.

Considering they expect you to be there 20 minutes early as well, you would be working 10 hour days...more during school vacation times all for the lovely low low wage of 2.2. Considering the time they want I wouldnt even consider this job for less than 3.2 a month and even then I would keep looking!

i worked at the kids club in samsung-dong for a while. is that the same one as yoksam? if not, yoksam must be new because samsung is only one stop away and they didn't have one 2 years ago that i was aware of. it was ok for a hogwan ... we had our ups and downs, but i ultimately got paid and got health insurance and severance. winter intensives sucked big time .... so beware if you're coming over during the holiday period. you essentially work twice as many hours and i can't remember if we had extra pay.

ps -- i don't think the contracts mean that much. if they go under and can't pay you; that's that. most schools have another contract written up in korean w/ official seals that is completely different than the english version, so i've heard.
