I am American, and I have never paid taxes here. I have heard that lasts for the first two years. I am going to work a winter camp, and in the contract it says there is a 5.5% tax. I emailed the person in charge and politely asked to remove it because of my american status. She said I was wrong.
Does anyone else know more about this, like where I can actually prove it? or am I just wrong? I told her my paystub does not show any deductions for taxes, just lunch, pension and healthcare, but she said the employer is then paying my taxes. but i doubt that, as it is not in my contract and i dont think they would just saddle up and pay it to be nice to me.

Americans are exempt for 2 years if they work at a university. Does not apply to camps and hagwons and other learning institutes. On another not, if you're having to pay 5.5%, make sure you file korean income tax because your getting overtaxed and a refund is in order. |

Not only for a university, but also for public schools. |
