I'm getting a laptop either this month or next.

What's the best way to go about this?

I want 512 to 1024 MB, 80 GB hardrive, CD/DVD combo that can burn/write, should connect to TV, camera, at least 15" screen etc. (I have the specs here but in Korean - could probably translate some).

The best thing I could find to date is an LG that's 1024/80. 1.59 million with a possible discount. Could be a good discount. Maybe 1.4. Don't know. I've heard about auctions, home shopping, etc. One person told me about a Toshiba with 512/80 for 890,000 Won. Is 512 MG RAM good enough?

Please advise best methods/deals.

Thank you

All I can say is the best thing to do is to get yourself down to Yongsan and look for yourself. Online shopping is not always the cheapest.

And also that way you can get something you like the look of. I know for me some laptops are damn ugly!!

512 meb should be more then enough. LG really has some overpriced junk tho. I rather get IBM Notebook.

IBM Thinkpad 1825-LGK on www.enuri.com for about 1,450,000.

I'd buy IBM over Samsung, probably.

Pentium 4M 1.7 with 2 meg cache, 15" Monitor, 80 gig HD, 512 Ram, ATI Mobility Radeon 9000 graphics SXGA+, DVD +/- burner, Firewire.

I can edit video on my Celeron M, and the HD is a mere 4200 RPM one. This IBM should be plenty for what you want to do. I have 768 of ram. If you have several applications running in the background (MSN Messenger, anti-virus, etc) you will find 512 a little tight for video editing. It also has an S-video out, which is nice.

IBMs are built quite well.

Look closely at the HP models. Especially the ones with the AMD Turion chips. They are 64 bit capable, and you may find yourself wishing you had that in a few years. If you can stretch your budget to 1,600,000 there is a really great HP with a 2.2 Turion 64 in it, and an 80 gig 5400 RPM hard drive. Oops, I see there is no DVD in that. Darn. That setup should smoke a lot of the similarly-priced 4M's, because the 4M's rely on a larger cache to make up for speed. The Turions still have a very capable Cache (1 meg), but also have the increased clockspeed values over the 4M. There is a point where more cache doesn't help a lot, and Intel is knocking on this door at the 2 meg mark. Many online reviews are telling people to go ahead and buy the cheaper Celeron M set-ups, because they are the same chip as their bigger brother, but with 1 meg of cache and they've deactivated some power-saving features that go unused most of the time. I went that route, and am thrilled.
