I'm not sure where to post this but my question is whether anyone has had a computer/laptop shipped to them while in Korea, or anything else of similar value... something you perhaps ordered and had delivered to your home in the US, then had sent to you as a gift from there. I'm just curious how long this process takes if you use a courier like FedEx to expedite things. I've heard that denoting it as a gift saves you the headache at customs. Just wondered if anyone has taken this route and can speak from experience. Thanks. Hope someone can help.

wouldn't try dhl/whatever other company it was before (airborne express or whatever...)

it took three attempts to get two separate orders (so like 4 different lost items) from victoria's secret

they didn't have a tracking number and generally just bad news

i would also suggest you stick with ups

The most important thing to remember is that nasty little tax you're going to be slapped with (around 10%) when your hardware arrives. Make sure that whoever sends the package writes a greatly reduced value on the customs form.

That's the trick I don't know how to get around. How do you insure it for the value of what it's worth but reduce it to another for the sake of avoiding that tax? It's the like the last link in the process I just can't seem to get around. If I only had someone coming for Christmas to avoid the whole
fu%$&n process!

What you could do, if your buying a new laptop, get them to ship it to your parents or friend and get them to take the laptop out of the original box and stick it in an old looking box and write 'used' on it. When the lappy comes to Korea they will (in my case they did) call you and ask if its a new or used product (they didnt open it). I simply told them it was used....

are you the guy buying the Sager....they're great machines...im ordering my second this week (5720).

No, I'm not the one ordering a 5720. I'd be sending for a Powerbook. And the way you did it sounds possible but I'd hate to be asked what the condition was, then tell them it's used, and then have them look at the contents, regardless. The thought of having the unit confiscated, or the size of the fine they would levy for lying kind of terrifies me, especially when I think about how hard I have to work to earn the money that will pay for that piece... I don't know, have to think about that one. Congratulations on pulling it off, though. That must have been a great feeling, opening that box.

Thanks Jejujitsu, I did the search and found that thread. I can't go that route for a number of reasons. Too many details to get into but yeah, it's not an option for what I want, at the price I want it, and so on. Thanks for the help, though.
