Here is what Michael Breen wrote in the Korea Times:

Quote:
Some aspects of nationalist education are extremely nasty. For example, in a year or two, todays 1st graders will be taught to be proud that Koreans are racially pure. Hands up, children, if this reminds you of a World War.

Anybody have any more information about this? Before I fly off the handle, I'd like to have the validity of this claim confirmed.

I don't know when it begins but if he is talking about Ϲ then he is right. The Metropolitician (http://www.metropolitician.blogs.com) has some good posts about this idea.

I have come to love blogging.

And as the quality of my posting goes up, so do the number of people who link back to me and trackback to me as a resource. I've learned in the last few weeks that putting up more detailed, well-thought, and graphic-laden posts gets more readers in. All of these thing are part of me improving my game as a blogger; I am also working on doing the same as a podcaster.

I think he's referring to posts like this. but it's still a really good blog.

While i don't know if it's "true", noone should be surprised if it is, should they?

So, does this mean the Hines Ward Interracial Love-Fest is officially over?

Billy, what about this "Foreigner Love/Appreciation/-pia Day" idea they're kicking around? Who is it for, exactly? I mean, will pure Korean-blooded, foreign passport-holding gyopos be included among the honourees? The ones that every Seoul cab driver I've ever spoken to counts among his relatives? So then, it's not just "Hurray For Round-eye!" Day but "Yay for My Cousins Who Moved to L.A. Seven Years Ago!" Day too.

And what about the mixed-race children in Korean schools? Is "Up With Non-Koreans!" Day for them as well? Is it the one day they should feel proud and good and doted on? before slithering back into shadows for the next 364 days while the rest of the class effuses the pride and glee that can only come from racial purity, as they're apparently going to be taught by their teachers?

I'm trying hard to remember what the event was years ago... I want to say it was Seoul's 600th 'anniversary' or something in connexion with 'Visit Korea Year' (1994), but I'm not sure. Anyway, they came up with this zinger of a slogan:

"One-Minded Koreans, Everlasting Fatherland! Very Happy"

All you have to do is go to that Metropolit whatever blog, read the scanned Korean textbook for yourself, and have your answer.

It's a good blog. Occidentalism.org is good, too.

Anyway, this is OT, but I have a question about something in the article:

Quote:
"If this is what they are taught in school, its no wonder people who were born after the Japanese occupation of Korea are more anti-Japanese than the people who actually experienced it. Have you ever wondered why Korea is the only country on the Chinese fringe without a thriving Chinese business community? They were suppressed and no one thought twice about it."

Anyone know of any (English language) links that talk about the Chinese community in Korea and any suppression of it? Or any tensions between Chinese and South Koreans in Korea? I'm curious to learn more about this.

Two problems with the blog:
#1 - Ϲ means singular or homogenous, not pure.
#2 - He's opposed to girls wearing skirts that are too short. Opposing miniskirts should be a crime.

Quote:
Now, what would we do in the face of such a trend? Whatever official or social sanctions there might be, I just think that certain clothes belong in the classroom, while certain ones belong in the dance club. Am I so wrong? Am I the only person who thinks so? I mean, I don't want to see clothes in class that I swear I have only seen on girls who work the Deja Vu strip club in Vegas. To put a point on it, I don't know whether to give that student her quiz back or a dollar bill to stick in her skirt top. I'm caught, man! I'm stuck! Seriously, though – this stuff is a bit distracting.

Heh, it is kind of interesting to see him talk about trying to concentrate on a class while that sort of thing is going on though.
