I recieved me FBI criminal background check and of course, there is no record found.
I called my local Sec of State, told them I needed an apostille for international work, the lady even asked me which country, and said that for the apostille the local state level is all I would need.
Now I "think" my recruiter is saying I need to send my FBI CBC off to Washington DC to get it apostilled by the FBI. Does anyone know the accepted procedure for this ??
Second, I live out of state from my closest Korean Consulate which is in Houston TX. Must I go to Houston for a face to face interview or is it possible to do a phone interview or even email ? I dont mind making the 10 hr drive but it would be nice if it wasnt necessary.
Any advice would be appreciated ?
Thanx |

Unfortunately your state lady is sort of wrong unless she was unaware of what you want apostilled. State level offices can't put an aposstile on the FBI check because it's a federal document- it needs to be sent to the Department of State. However, you could write an affidavit swearing that the CBC is a true document, get it notarized in your state and your state can apostille that.
As for the Korean consualte interview, if this is your first Korean visa, I think the face-to-face interview is mandatory. Give them a call or email and see what they say. |

In regards to the interview, if you haven't done a face-to-face interview before, then you will very likely have to do one. |

i don't know about the states, but in canada they let me make a video and mail it in. However, Canada's a big country and only has 2 places that do this. Vancouver (closest) was about 18 hours away. |

Actually, yes you can get an apostille from the Secretary of State in some states. Call their office and check if they provide this service. You can do it in California-I just did and I sent my paperwork to Korea, and they approved it. However, you have to do a couple things before the apostille. You have to get it notarized, and you have to get the notary's signature authenticated (I had to go to a separate office to get this done). Keep in mind, I live in California so the process could be somewhat different where you live.
I can't really speak towards the consulate interview as I haven't gone through that part yet. However, my recruiter told me that an interview would not be necessary. You might want to double check with your recruiter/contact to see if it's necessary for you.
Best of luck. |
