Well I called up immi to ask them about applying for my f2 visa and they told me I need 30 million in the bank or a rental house in my name.
Now I know a handful of foreigners who have f2 visas and not one single one was asked about the 30 million or the rental house.
What the h@ll is up with immi and their total inconsistent answers about everything!!!!
How many f2 visa holders on here had to provide the 30 million or the rental house before they were issued with a visa? |

Every married person I know had to do that. How hard is it, really? 30 mill down on an apartment housing contract is nothing. |

I had to do it...or rather my wife, who is my visa sponsor had to show proof of financial ability to support me (30 million, a rental agreement or a job that pays her 30+ mill a year).
Standard requirement for a visa...financial ability to support.

Well that is news to me. I have 3 friends who applied and got f2 visas without having 30 mil or a rental house on their names. One friend got an f2 visa without his wife even having a job or any kind of income close to 30 mil a year. How does that work then? |

You need one of the three.
*30mil in the bank
*A housing contract in your name
*Your wife's employment contract
The latter 2 options should be worth 30mil aswell (so immigration told me)

Meh. I have a friend who just got an F2 without any of those three things.
OP: Are you trying to get an F2 visa? Just go to immigration and try.
Just smile and turn in the required paperwork (minus the 30 million proof) and see if it works.
If it doesn't work, leave, and try different immigration office.
It sounds like different offices have different standards. It's the same thing with Korean consulates in the USA...they all have different requirements for a visa, even though the requirements are supposedly universal. |

Or you need in laws willing to front the cash if your wife isn't working or doesn't own property.
That's what happened in my case. My M-i-L is very kind to me. |

Thanks for the information guys.
I agree that immi officers do what they feel like on that day when you walk through the doors.
I'll show up with all the paperwork and see if they say anything on that day about the three possibilities.
If they need the 30 mil then I'll ask an in-law to front me the money I need. I already have some so they only need to add what is needed. I get along amazingly well with my in-laws so they will help.
We are planning on taking out a small bank loan to afford the kind of place we really want. I might just take out the loan get the house on my name and then apply for the visa.
There is always a way to get around things. You just need to find it.
It still boils my blood though if you can't get one single straight answer out of immi. |

We didn't need any of that, either.
It really depends on who is working at the place. We gave the immigration officer a big box of juice after he helped us with a tiny detail, and he was great all through the process. |

Out of all the F2s I know (and there are a few) all of them had to do this. The only one that didn't was down in Jeju-do because of the island's goofy Immi laws. |

I'll be applying next week. What we have:
20 million in key money on our apartment and
I have 10-14 million in the bank....
hope that does it....
I guess I'll bring a big box of juices just for the heck of it........ |

I am a woman and we didn't have to show it - but my husband owns a business and all he had to do was to fill in some form stating his annual sales/profits and fax them his business lincese and that was it.
I was working at his company at the time and they never asked me to show them my bank account or anything... just took my husband's word for things...
methinks rules are differently applied for men and women, i.e. easier for women. |
