Apparently Harrah's casino somtimes mails out $15 or $20 coupons to entice people to go to their casinos. Well last month, Harrah's accidenty made the coupons worth $525. It tried to refuse accepting the coupons, but the law forced the company to accept the coupons. Ouch.
Bye bye 5+ million bucks. Even if everyone used the cash and lost it all at the casino, Harrah's would owe half that amount in taxes.
Harrah's dumb move |

I checked and the story was picked up by both the local press and the Associated Press newswire service. You can't buy that sort of publicity! Television ads running three times for a week can cost that much. Now any junk mail from Harrah's won't go unopened, and that casino will be one of the first ones that come to mind when thinking about casinos.
So it's no big loss... if not an eventual gain. |

I used to work for Harrah's. The over-payment would have been promoted as an incentive for punters as they(Harrah's) are generous and stylish in the way they accommodate gamblers and staff. Quite an unexpected windfall for some lucky people nonetheless. |
