I'm looking to meet people that would be interested in starting a music/concert promotion company in Seoul. I've been craving live music from internationally known bands. Seoul is an untapped market for concerts and it would only make sense that bands that are performing in Japan make the two hour flight to Seoul to perform. I have previous publicity experience in the music industry in the States. If anyone has any interest or knows of anyone already working in the Seoul music scene, please contact me.

Then I guess you missed tonight's the Laurence Juber concert . It was a great shoe. Though, I think I was the only "PWG" in the audience.
Best of luck. |

Hey David,
I will only be here for another 10 months and I don't really have any connections... But I wish you luck! I'd love to see some more bands come this way, and its a kick in the nuts to see so many great bands play in Japan and skip Korea. Seoul seems to have better luck with DJ's. I guess they are easier to move around (less gear). I'm trying to make a Kid Koala show happen here in Seoul this year. Its a long shot though. |

Check out TUUNG!
http://www.tuung.net/
Tuung was formed in 2005, born of a need to bring fresh live acts to perform in South Korea. While nearby Japan enjoys visits from the world's best independant bands, South Korea seldom has the chance to play host to up-and-coming acts which deserve the attention of music promoters and record companies here and abroad.
The first performance hosted by Tuung was a fantastic success, with the promotion of LIMITED EXPRESS (HAS GONE?) of Japan in association with Ten-zen-men of Sydney, Australia Tuung brought a fresh, exciting avant garde act to Korea, receiving a warm welcome from an international audience, in their three shows. The performance was part of a wave of much interest and momentum for the band, who have since gone on to an Australian and US tour, with a European your scheduled.
The Rock Tigers performed at our show, and are now going from strength to strength gathering press attention and have recently secured a Japanese tour.
Tuung have passion for music not profit, interest in working with exciting new innovative bands, and a dedication to ensuring that as many people get to see the band as possible, with the aim of breaking even on all shows, returning any profits to the band. |

Having just returned from the Korea/Japan Punk Festival in Tokyo, I have to say: can we please look a little further than Japan for our international acts?
In April this year some of the Korean punks, and Sean who I think is on here somewhere brought the North American straight-edge band Champion. They just barely broke even, but the amount of money that was on the table was frightening.
Piggybacking on the Japan tours is a great way to go. If you time it so they leave Japan on Monday or Tuesday and have time to relax during the week before shows on the weekend, the bands are usually satisfied. |

Yeah, I specifically mentioned that Japanese band cuz I figure its a hell of a lot more likely to happen if they are from Japan. And thats the only band from Japan that I know about who I'd really like to see.
In other news: JOHN SCOFIELD will play in Seoul on March 3rd. Boo ya! |

| I'm looking to somehow attract American, Canadian, Australian, Irish, etc. bands.I think I just need to meet the right people, even those that are producing the Backstreet Boys show. As much as I can't stand pop music, they are a big name and someone with money is able to bring them over here. I don't see why the same can't happen for those that actually play instruments and don't lip sync their songs. If anyone has suggestions, please let me know |

| I've talked with a ton of Canadian bands who would love to come here. There's just one problem: money. |

| I do have a couple of friends that work for Fortune 500 companies and they would consider talking their company into sponsoring the right event. If they would sponsor the event, the cost of the tickets could be considerably less. The biggest problem I see is marketing live music(not pop or electronic) to the Korean audience as well as convincing the agents and record labels to convince their bands to come play a country where music isn't being bought at a tremendous rate. I do know from past experience, that bands will play in any city and if given a decent place to stay and some comforts from home, they be more than thrilled to introduce their music to a new audience. |

exactly. pm me if you can figure out a way to get bands covered and i can hook u up with some folks who may be interested in swinging out this way from the States. i used to work for a local entertainment paper back home in the promo dept and ran into band/groups on a somewhat regular basis.
and i feel you on the whole Japan/Korea bit. Japanese are just more into the indie flavor than Koreans. they eat it up like it's candy. Koreans seem to be happy with their K-pop, although i haven't been here long to give an accurate opinion. |
