For some reason my high school splashed out on 70,000 tickets for the entire staff of the school and their wives and husbands to attend Aida last night at the LG Arts Center in Yeoksam Dong, Gangnam.

I went along somewhat reluctantly as I didn't really know what to expect. I can't recommend this performance enough, it was nothing like I have never seen before and many of the female performers were simply stunning! The production cost over 18 million and the sets, costumes, actors, actresses and orchestra were amazing. It kept me entranced for the 2 and a half hours. I was fortunate to be seated on the second row back from the front where I had a prime view.

Not being able to understand Korean doesn't matter, the story tells itself. Highly recommended!

``The musical market in Korea is perceived as growing fast, attracting international attention. It is becoming a more and more important market. That is why I came to see it, said Tim Rice, a celebrated lyricist for musical theater, who is visiting the nation.

``After Japan, maybe it is the most important market in Asia, Rice said in a news conference in Seoul on Monday, adding that artistic capability is good with the small population of Korea being the only potential concern.

Rice, winner of four Tony awards and three Oscars, is visiting the nation at the invitation of Seensee Musical Company, which is producing the Korean version of ``Aida by Rice and Elton John. The Seoul production has finished about a half of its eight-month run and has passed the 100,000-viewer mark last week.
