Hi guys,

When I get back to ol' blighty I'm setting up a business, online. At the moment I am writing up my business plan and am going to start contacting relevant suppliers.

As this is going to be an entirely online venture I need a website which will look nice and also have marketplace facilities, dealing with credit cards/debit cards.

Currently this business is only in the planning stage but I would like to reserve a domain name and be able to email from the companies email account, instead of using hotmail (which I think you'll agree is hardly confidence inspiring for the people I'm contacting Very Happy)

Any hosting reccomendations? I need somethign cheap and cheerful now, getting more complex as I move up and begin proper production early next year.

Oh and one final query, how much would a website cost to make. It needs the following: Search functions, membership, members must post images and catagorise their work into various sectors depending on its type. Kinda like ebay but not. I know thats not much to go on but ballpark figures are all i'm looking for.

How hard would something like this be for a total novice to design using frontpage?

Thanks

Hi blunder,

I think you may have read my thread on how to set up an ecommerce site already. Just as a reminder it's at

... to start off I'd recommend just opening a paypal account and letting them handle some of your transactions. A merchant account from someone like worldpay can be quite expensive, but it lets you handle all the transactions from your site - or even from your living room.

... that should be no problem, as most web-hosts will give you free accounts on their mail servers along with your domain name.

... no you're right that isn't much to go on. Check out www.templatemonster.com or www.oswd.com and try to find a style or format that approximates the one you're looking for. If you can't then you'll have to design one yourself or perhaps get one designed for you.
Sounds like you'll need a basic mysql/php site. A good programmer will probably run you something like $30/hour. He/she could probably pull the site together in about 10hrs. But then this is just an estimate.

... probably not all that hard to do a few standard html sheets on frontpage. But then if it's a business then you probably want it to
look like it was done by a professional.

Anyway all the best of luck and make sure to post back here to tell us how it's going Smile
