OPERATION HOLLYWOOD exposes the little-known world of collaboration between Hollywood and the Pentagon.

It's a world where studios and networks bow to pressure from the military.
It's a world where generals and admirals twist the arms of movie producers to get them to portray the military in a more positive light.
It's a world where history is changed, movies are killed and artistic integrity is thrown out the window.
It's a world of movie censorship and self-censorship.
David Robb's shocking new book is based on thousands of pages of Pentagon documents, including internal memos and bluntly frank correspondence with producers the military seeks to influence. David Robb has interviewed more than 70 Hollywood filmmakers and Pentagon censors.
Operation Hollywood shows, in stunning detail, that while we may think the content of American movies is free from government interference, the Pentagon has actually been telling filmmakers what to say and what not to say for decades.

Hollywood and the Pentagon
Documentary about the American army's involvement with Hollywood and filmmaking. The head of the Film Liaison Office makes no secret of his goals: flattering the US Army, winning support for its actions on the battlefield, and encouraging more soldiers to sign up. In short: pure propaganda.
Scripts are cut and watered down; characters are changed; the historical truth is fudged.

Because of the captivating appeal of motion pictures - especially after soundtracks were added - the film industry became an obviously powerful vehicle for propaganda. The "mogels" (mostly - if not all - Jewish) who controlled the big studios limited the amount of artistic /creative control that any writers, directors or actors actually had. It's natural for the government - and especially the military during times of "hot" and cold war - to want to use it for rallying support for our troops and "the American way of life". The government - especially during the aftermath of World War 2 and throughout the McCarthy era - exerted leverage against the movie mogels by prosecuting and "blacklisting" Communist sympathizers/aka "Commie-pinkos" among the ranks of writers, directors, producers (and actors) - many of whom were liberal Jews.
Now, of course, there are many more independent fimmakers out there - and it's easier for all kinds of propaganda to be made by diverse groups for various causes. The federal government is still powerful enough to exert influence, however, and some major film executives no doubt willingly cooperate to advance nationalistic goals - while other filmakers are coopted for special multi-media campaigns ala "Wag the Dog". |

Just an idle question.
Do military establishments in other countries encourage anti-military movies about their own countries? |

Let's talk about exposing the little-known world of collaboration between Hollywood and the soft drink industry
It's a world where studios and networks bow to pressure from the advertisers.
It's a world where product managers and marketers twist the arms of movie producers to get them to portray their carbonated beverage in a more positive light.
It's a world where history is changed, movies are killed and artistic integrity is thrown out the window.
It's a world of movie censorship and self-censorship.
Mr. Pibb's shocking new book is based on thousands of pages of PepsiCo and Coca-Cola documents, including internal memos and bluntly frank correspondence with producers the advertisers seek to influence. Mr. Pibb has interviewed more than 70 Hollywood filmmakers and beverage censors.
Operation Hollywood shows, in stunning detail, that while we may think the content of American movies is free from carbonated interference, the advertising establishment has actually been telling filmmakers what their characters should drink and what not to drink for decades.
Hollywood and the Aluminum Can
Documentary about the American soft drink industry's involvement with Hollywood and filmmaking. The head of Coca-Cola's Film Liaison Office makes no secret of his goals: flattering Coke(tm) products, winning support for Gatorade(tm)'s presence on the sportsfield, and encouraging more soldiers to drink up. In short: pure propaganda.
Scripts are cut and sugared-up; characters are wired; the historical truth is fizzed. |

Apparently, Mr. "Doufu" is gunning for a "Bo's Peabody Award" nomination in the newly created "Best Parody of a Post or Poster" category.
Like Eisenhour predicted, the military-industrial complex/establishment has become a threat to peace - and freedom of expression. When expedient, it supports drug dealors , assassins and false propaganda. The President of the U.S. needs civilian advisors who have spiritual insight into the nature of karma and know the real formula for peace (not secterian religious leaders who promote all kinds of killing in the name of God.) |

What is your point about Jews? |

I obviously wasn't making a strong point about the ethnicity of the moguls (hence I stated it parenthetically...) But my later reference to "liberal Jews" - which you didn't bother to highlight - implied that the (Jewish) moguls were more vulnerable to government pressure since McCarthyites were cacking down on Jewish intellectuals (often in their employ) who were conversant with Communist philosophies. I've read elsewhere that the mogels were usually reluctant to promote "Jewish" causes in films in order to distance themselves from anything that might hurt business...
(Back in the early 80's I was actually popular on South Beach when I'd lead chanting parties around Lincoln Road Mall singing the Hare Krishna mantra to the tune of "Hava Nagila". I remember one old Jewish guy exclaiming "That guy's terriffic! ... Of course, I also played to the Spanish-speaking crowd with the tune borrowed from the "Mexican Hat Dance" ....) |

Well, I suppose I saw you there then- six degrees of separation.
Considering that the Latinos on South Beach in the 80's were mostly Cubans, who, for the most part, have some disdain and arrogance regarding Mexicans, I don't imagine they were so greatly entertained. And given the militancy of the Cuban exile community at that time, you are probably lucky if they only ignored you.
And I don't mean that in a mean way- it's just true. |

The Hare Krishnas in Miami/Miami Beach were always enthusiastically received by the Cuban community. We usually sent large chanting parties to major Cuban festivals like the "Three Kings Parade" and "Calle Ocho" and hundreds of intoxicated Cubans would dance and chant with (and sometimes pour beer on...) the devotees (who would also give out Indian sweets or spicy popcorn cooked in ghee along with transcendental books in Spanish...
Our only problems with Cubans per se was during the Mariel boatlift fiasco (remember the 125,000 refugees - including many released from prisons and mental institutions - who invaded South Florida around 1980?...)

Anyway, I was one of the managers at our beachfront temple on Collins Ave. (formerly "Boardwalk Plaza" Hotel - next to Rooney Plaza in South Beach...) and we really had our hands full with crazy desperados scaling the walls of our building and extracting air-conditioners, TVs and anything else they could carry away...
Back in the day, the Krishnas in Miami were never too concerned about physical threats. If anyone gave us trouble, the black-belt martial artists (and two former professional heavyweight boxers among our ranks) would quickly be dispatched to take care of business. After one particularly bloody reprisal, the police chief in Miami reportedly told our temple president that we were getting a reputation "like Mafia hitmen". (...I think that particular incident involved one of our more humble door-to-door preachers being brutally attacked by an ornery Coconut Grovite who broke his collarbone, repeatedly kicked him in the stomach - and then sicked his viscious dog on him... After a couple of our ksatrias (warrior types) paid him a visit, both he and his dog were devastated beyond recognition - for which our guys each had to spend a couple weeks in jail... The police described it as one of the "worst beatings they'd ever seen" - That's saying a lot in an area including "Liberty City" and the Grove ghetto...) |

I'm not sure what your referring to exactly, "Jaganath..." (what's with the "69"?) but one can also make the case that modern society is full of tanks, jackpots and rapists... There are obviously relatively good and bad people within every race and ethnic group. The real demons - like Hitler - were probably possessed by evil aliens .... |

Its a mixture of the sacred and the profane. The idea occurred to me on one of my numerous navel gazing sessions in Puri. Also, the email address jaganath@hotmail had been taken. |

...Yeah, I'm sure that Jaganath108@hotmail would also be unavailable (it seems that numbers divisible by 16 are the most auspicious...)
- If you want to also use a Jaganath photo for your avatar there's a nice one available at this site:

Cheers, I did use one for a while, but am fond of rotating my avatars. I currently use JR Bob Dobbs, the most swinginest deity in the universe on another forum. |
