I have been interested in joining a meeting site, like UB Love, to make more friends. My friend joined, but had zero responses. He was unhappy with the service because they entice you into believing the people on the profiles can actually write you back. They can only write back if they pay, and UB scans the personal messages and deletes phone numbers and email contact information unless both members have paid. So there are thousands of profiles on there, but very few can actually respond. A few years ago he had good luck with the service, but now no luck since they changed their policy making you pay to receive messages.

Has anyone had good luck with a meeting site here in Korea?

Not in Korea, but I had some success with The Onion personals and with local magazines' websites (such as That's Beijing in Beijing). And of course I always check Friendster when I end up in a new city, to find out who I'm connected to there.

On fridays I'm stuck out in a library in a tiny little country town. There's nothing to do there except read books and mess around on the internet, so thats what I do all day. I only have one or maybe two classes on that day, but I'm stuck out there for about 9 hours.

Anyway, I got a free account at UBlove, looking for the same thing you are. 'Though I'm not sure if there's as many handsome gay men for you as there are hot women. Anyway it has some Instant messenger thing at the site. If you haven't paid then you can't initiate contact with anyone else, but if a paid member messages you then you can reply.

Last friday I signed on, and some hot-ass chick in Incheon wrote to me right away. She sent me her MSN details (not censored by UBL on the messenger thingey) and I talked to her on that for a bit.

Anyway unfortunately her english was pisspoor and she was using one of those awful translation things half the time.. so you'd get, say "horse" instead of "say" in the middle of a sentence or somesuch. So I kinda gave up talking to her.

Anyway, in conclusion, UBLove works if you don't pay. I didn't try payin like your friend though. I'll signon again this friday and see if I can catch any more fish. Umm if theres anywhere better I'd give it a gander.

I joined ublove for 6 months one time. I don't think its a con as they did indeed reply to me and chat with me.I hooked up with 13 women off there actually....so...its real.
Although I guess most of these sites post a few fake profiles of models/hotties just to lure punters. Also, some of the K-women on there are in it just to practise and improve their english (but definitely not all).

if your mates getting no bites, he may need to revamp his profile or put up a better photo, or something.

as for the free membership thing...if your profile is good then people will write to you anyway. But they will generally want to chat with you online a bit before meeting up.
What makes you think you should get all the benefits free anyhow?

or if you're just looking to meet people in korea (but not necessarily in the mood for jesus or dating) try myspace.com there are tons of koreans and expats on there and as long as you are not creepy you can just drop people a line and say hello. it's a good place to check out the local music scene as well.

I got membership at UBLove a few years back. I don't think
it is a scam at all. I went on quite a few dates. I didn't like
any of the dames I met, but I had some fun. I sent PMs to
all the good looking chicks on the site. I must have sent
hundreds. I got about 40 responses. Of those I got about
ten dates. It is all a numbers game.

After a while I realized I could meet more women
by going out than staying home at my computer.
