Hi I recently graduated from university and I have started to look for a job in South Korea. It is nowhere near as easy as what I thought it would be. It is so hard to find reliable information on the internet.

I have tried using recruiters such as ATC and People Recruit and gotten nothing as of yet from them. People Recruit claim that it is really hard to find a good job in Seoul or Busan and that the positions there are filled very quickly. I have tried applying directly to jobs in Busan and Seoul and gotten no response. The recruiters are also very pushy and they say that I must take a job straight away or it will be gone!

I am Australian and I only have a 3 yr Bachelor degree in Technology. Lots of schools are looking for a BA or BE.

Is it hard for a newbie to find a decent position in a big city? If so where is a good alternative location where I can find a decent job easier?

Working in South Korea is something that I really want to do. However it is really daunting searching for a job in a new country.

Took me ages as well.

They're biased towards North American accents too, but there should never be a situation where all the jobs are satisfied by the NA supply so eventually, assuming your degree is a BA and your applications are good, you'll find a position. Public or Hagwon or both?

I never got a reply at all from ATC. Glad I didn't in hindsight because I got a swell deal elsewhere. So thanks, ATC.

Like the others said, don't give up. Jobs are out there.

If big city is your criteria, consider Taejon, Daegu and Kwangju. They are all over a million. Changwon/Masan/Jinhae together have about a million.

Just keep sending resumes! Someone will contact you eventually. Just be careful of some recruiters! They would want you to take their offer ASAP! Think of a used car salesman and you'll get the picture.

I liked whoever it was who asked "Are these jobs for real?" of course they are not. You might as well be answering a job advertisment in the back of Popular Mechanics. Yes, we have thousands of them! Make $30,000 a month stuffing envelopes.

With almost any job you are offered here, you're going to have to make a decision relatively quickly. Things often happen at the last minute in Korea. Although you should be careful choosing any job off the internet, that's not necessarily a reason to be put off.

Lots of public schools will advertise in the next month. Try www.worknplay.co.kr as well. And if you can afford to come here and look, do that. You can stay in a yogwan (hotel) or a homestay situation for cheap.

You can even get a mini-mini-apartment (Gosiwan) with a shared shower much like a university dorm for about 250,000 won per month or so. Crash in one for a month. Perfect for job hunting. Ask us, and we can direct you toward some.

You are in and approaching the perfect time of year to find a job. It really makes a difference if you are here. Come here first if you can. Trust me. And ignore the recruiters, who want to push you into the crappy jobs with schools like SLP Sogang Language Program, and Wonderland. Use recruiters for what they can get you, but have no allegiance to them.
