Whats your assessment?
From Manila I need to get back to Seoul for a winter camp. I'm corresponding with someone who was trying to sell his ticket on a certain website.
The person is selling their Mabuhay Miles and can transfer it to someone else.. a scam or legit?
Here is her response:

I am not a travel agent. But I assure you that I am a legitimate seller of tickets and will not fool or scam you.
If you are wondering why my tickets are cheaper than the normal PAL
fare,...it is because I am selling my "AWARD" tickets. These are my
mileage points I've earned from my Mabuhay Miles that I plan not to use.
This is my process of getting and receiving payment for the said
tickets:
For routes from Manila to Korea/Shanghai/Guam/Japan (I only sell
roundtrip tickets. No one way tickets):
My price is P18,000 + taxes. (you can call PAL office or hotlines for
the quote of taxes or I can quote for you)
For routes to Manila to Xiamen/HongKong/Taipe: My price is P13,500 +
taxes
You will have to give me your whole name for me to be able to make a
booking for your flight. We have to book at least 10 days before flight
date. If not, if we book 5-9 days before flight date, there will be an
additional surcharge of $30. Or, if we book 4 days and below, before
flight date, there will be an additional surcharge of $50.
After getting a confirmed booking, we have to meet at any PAL office or
airport within (3) days to get the ticket or the booking will be
cancelled.
You will pay me the P18,000 or P13,500 at PAL (at the same time, I will
request for PAL to process the ticket) Finally, you will pay the taxes
to the PAL office. After all this, PAL will release the ticket.
Note: You need to bring your passport for ticket purposes and have
visas already stamped on your passports for travel to countries that
require visas.
Thank you and hoping to hear from you soon! |

You can sell awards tickets - my friends did with their Air Canada ones. |

Legitimate people don't use the word "legitimate". |

On the one hand it sounds reasonable if cash & ticket are being exchanged in person in the airline office in the presence of an official airline clerk.
On the other hand what strikes me as odd is how the whole proposal sounds far more ilke a business than an individual selling a few accumulated points. I mean, how many points has this person accrued to have such a detailed payment plan, not to mention soliciting business from strangers on the net?
I smell potential for getting stung somehow. How much do you stand to save? |

I'd save $150 by doing it this way.
I found this seller on bidshot.com which is essentially another ebay.com auction type of website.
In the individual email to me, she signed it 'ms.' which makes me feel more comfortable.
The only uncomfortable part I'd feel would be carrying the cash to hand to her in the presense of PAL.. I much prefer credit card transactions for these type of things. |
