So I will go back home in about a month.
What are some things I need to do before leaving?

All I can think of is:
* cancel credit card
* cancel cell phone
* get my pension

I'm sure I'm missing something.
Please help me create a checklist!!
(I think this would also be helpful to others in the FAQ Forum)

Empty your fridge so that the next resident doesn't get knocked over by the scent of 'tuna surprise' upon opening the door.

Close your Korean bank account and cancel your internet subscription if you have one. Personally when I left my last city I donated the books I'd purchased and didn't plan to reread to my employer to offer to the new foreign teacher.

No tuna in my fridge, but I should probably clean out the kimchi that's been in there for the past year.

Is it necessary to completely close the bank account, or can I just take out all the money? It took me hours to open a bank account, I don't want to imagine how long it would take me to explain that I want to close it. And why.
I also don't live in the same city where I opened my account anymore, and I don't think I'll have time to go back there before I leave.

Buy a couple of cans of bbondegi to show and tell back home and as fun gifts.

Neither silkworm nor yet butterfly, the half-transformed bug is high in nutrients and the byproduct of the silk industry, eaten as snacks in Korea, served hot at streetside stalls.

I took some home on a visit and it proved to be quite the hit... though nobody actually ate any.

Hike the great national parks if you haven't already.
Do a Korean girl if you haven't already.
Eat dog meat if you haven't already.
Go to Busan and try whale meat, if you haven't already.
Buy language textbooks if you want to continue learning Korean at home.
If you like kimchi or soju, send a lifetime supply home. Don't worry, the kimchi will keep.
Line up your next job! Sucks to get home and find yourself unemployed.

Yes, do not forget to cancel all internet, cable, etc., by yourself, of on the phone with help from a friend. Do not rely on someone else to do it. My former boss said he would and he never did.

If you know you have bills coming which will arrive after you leave, leave some money to cover them. Perhaps with a co-worker you trust.

I was like you ...... I didn't want to go through the hassle of closing my account. I drew out as much as I could using a teller machine and left the balance. There has been the magnificent sum of 437 won sitting in my account since I left Korea in March this year.

I wonder how long it will be before my account officially becomes 'inactive' and they close it.

Don't worry about closing it. Take all the $ out and forget about it. It'll probably be closed soon enough. If not, you always have an account to use if you keep the book and card and if you come back, right? Also, if they don't get closed quickly due to inactivity like back home, that would mean that I still have accounts at all kinds of banks, some of which I haven't touched since '97: Dae-goo Bank, Han-bit Bank, Post Office Account, among others...wonder how much money is in that Dae-goo Bank account where I left mahn-wohn? Hmmm...have to see if I can find the card.

Are you making fun? I actually like that stuff. Nothing better than bbondegi as a sidedish for fried chicken and beer.

Adding to my checklist: cancel internet and cable MYSELF
