Is there anywhere in Seoul - clubs, bars and whatnot - where one can appreciate Metal gods like Pantera, Sepultura, Faith No More, Iron Maiden, Slayer? Less metally Metal like Van Halen and Guns N'Roses is cool too. Whilst Hip-Hop and Techno are all well and good, I could really do with listening to some hardcore riffery. Does Korea have a Metal scene like Japan does?

If you're down with punk too, check out skunkhell in Hong-dae. Awesome place, excellent peoples, and as close as you're going to get.

Punk's fine as long as it's stuff like The Clash, yeah. Cheers.

There's a ton of Clash-like punk here. You'd probably like Suck Stuff and Ghetto Bombs best.

For metal, I've always thought there was a big scene in Seoul, larger than punk.

There's a Korean band called Blackhole that adds everyone on MySpace. Not sure if they're good or not.

Mr Kwang recommends this band:

I had this link passed to me.

If you can handle metalcore or hardcore, try Vassline first:

If you can handle tough-guy skinhead hardcore verging on metal, try Samchung and Knockdown.

Here are the main labels.

I need some loud metal. I need booze-swilling, beligerent, coke-snorting, smack-injecting, people-hating METAL!

Please...more metal tips, folks.

From watching Korean TV there seems to be a still healthy interest in 80's style glam-metal. But not what you're talking about. Nothing hardcore or meaningful. Mostly dramatic hair and long guitar solo's. Terrible.

I'm no punk-ass bitch but I live with one.

If you want hardcore and meaningful shit then give this show a look next month. Vassline, Johnny Royal, 13 Steps, and so on.

If you like black/death metal, come see Oathean and 5 or 6 other bands tomorrow (12/17). Sorry, short notice.

It's at Queen Live Hall, subway stop Ewha University. The price is 20,000 won.
