I am having problems with my interact card from CIBC. Anyone else have problems? How did you get around this?

I don't think you can use that card anywhere out of Canada, unless it's the U.S. CIBC is bush. Every bank I belong to is bush. Here in Korea I get screwed by Kookmin bank. When I go back home, Kookmin bank hands the screwing rights back to CIBC.

I've used my CIBC card in a pinch once here (I think it was at one of those booth-type CASH MASHINE thingies). There's even a CIBC branch in Seoul. I visited it once cuz I needed money and the bank machines I was trying wouldn't work. They informed me that my CIBC bank card wasn't good enough to take money out from that branch. I pulled a mini-$hit-fit, but all for naught. I think they said that accounts overseas weren't accessible or something like that. This was like 5 years ago and my memory fails me. Crying or Very sad

I've used mine here in the past but not all machines will take it.

Head to "tourist areas".

Sorry guys, like I said, this was, like, 5 years ago... Maybe a Korean friend could help you out with this? That's how I found out...

I use my CIBC bank card all the time.

Since the man and I finished grad school, we've been a bit tight for cash. The parents are great, and from time to time depost a bit of fun money into our CIBC account.

I withdraw it from Korea Exchange bank in Itaewon, or ANY international bank machine: They're the ones in train stations and 7-11s that don't have any specific bank name plastered all over them. No Fine Bank, Woori Bank, whatever....

No problem at all.

It works on all HanNet machines, so make a note of them when you see them. They're often found in GS 25 corner stores, and some subway stops, but not many.

The "nice cashing" machines work too - just about any subway machine will work, actually. I've never had a problem in those. I used a Scotiabank card, but my aunt and her friends were visiting and some of them had CIBC cards - they used the subway machines, and an "international service" machine in the post office on Yonsei campus.

The back of your Convenience Card should have the plus symbol on it. Most Korean "Bank" machines don't support this service. The machines mentioned above as well as international machines will usually have a whole bunch of logos plastered on the booth. Things like Cirrus, Plus, Diners Club, etc.

I haven't had any problems using my CIBC card when I have found the PLUS symbol listed.

My CIBC card worked fine here. I used it at CityBank (American bank) and at a HSBC bank.

Well, it's not using the card IN Korea, that I'm interested in or am having problems with. It's sending money back THROUGH CIBC in Seoul that I'm wondering about. Or being able to deposit money into our CIBC accounts in Seoul. Probably unlikely, but I thought I'd ask. Maybe there is a CIBC branch in Seoul or something that people can go to. Anyone know that? To me, that would be awesome! Think of all the bank fees you would save instead of sending through wire transfers. Im surprised most people don't discuss about that more here. I mean, for exceptions like people who don't send hardly any money home or have a good deal set up with their branch, it can get pricey!

The Korean fee can range from 8,000-15,000 won or so PER transaction, and then the Canadian bank hits you with a 10-20$ fee on that SAME transaction. You're lookin at $30-50 in fees for one transaction possibly. I know that CIBC takes out $20.00CDN on every wire transfer PLUS the Korean bank's fee on top of that. No matter the amount being sent!

If there was a way to deposit in Seoul, it would be great! Especially for people who have to make monthly payments back home.

SORRY bud! what i MEANT was, other people who use DIFFERNT Korean banks may be as high as $50.00 possibly. Depends on the bank. Some banks charge a higher fee in Korea. In my case, if you wanna get PRECISE, is around $30.00 or $31.00. That's the cheapest I can get.

Oh yeah, I'm a SO-CALLED English teacher, NOT Math, just like yourself Wink
