I go to a Chinese hagwon (I don't want to forget my Chinese) and have been going for about 2 weeks now. A couple days ago, it went from only me to me and a university student. Yesterday, we were doing numbers (I am actually not bad at Chinese, but I am in the beginners class because of my tones, they are worse than my French accent). So, she asks me to guess the other student's (somewhat cute, young girl) age. I guess 24, she is actually 19. Ok. Next, she gets us to say our cell numbers and home phone numbers and writes them on the board. Would anyone ask those things in a class? I was embarrased about the age question (I think she was too). The number thing didn't bother me too much, but I dont' know about the girl?
I love the teachers there and the wangjangnim (sp??) seems nice, and I am actually learning quite quickly, she is a bit of a slave driver with my tones (I asked for this) and I am not complaining about her class. I look forward to it everyday. I go 5 times a week and I love it. But I jsut thought this was very different from what I would do.

Also, one of the junior high students in another class had a child moved to another class because he farts too much. I have never worked in a hagwon, is this normal? Everyone was complaining about him and how dirty he was while he was right there Smile

And I guess finally, the teachers there apparently make 800000 a month and have no winter break. People complain a lot about hagwons, and most of the time it is deserved, but no matter how bad it is, it's still better than that!

I'm curious, are the classes conducted in Chinese or Korean? Are the teachers Native speakers or Korean Chinese speakers? Is it expensive?

Cheers

120000 won a month for one 50 minute class everyday. I think my teacher is Korean (pretty sure), but most of the teachers are Chinese. It's only cause I am in the super beginner class picking up my tones. I'll be moving up soon I am sure.
They will speak Korean only if they have exhausted everything else, but the Chinese teachers can probably speak just was well as a lot on English teachers. I must say, since I am only starting Korean (only been here 3 months) I understand almost everything when they explain it in Chinese or with pictures. I think it only happens in the beginner class too (and not too often). I already had a good background of Chinese though, so I am finding no big problems.
