there really is no need to be searching for an "very-well-spoken English dotor" - any typical doctors clinic (hospital) should be fine.....
Being a heavy drinker and smoker myself and having stayed here consecutively throughout five winters and springs (which is when I get sick the most) - I go to the closest hospital -doctors clinic to my apartment or school whenever I am sick (usually December or March) and I have never had a problem with the service or communication...
I find most doctors can speak English because they study their medical degrees at Univ - using mainly English textbooks etc
Concerning facilities that specalise in lung, throat, chest problems - of which I have had all during the last 6 years in Korea - then it really depends on what your problem is......
If you thinks it is mainly your throat (tonsilitis) - then go to an ENT Doctor (Ear, Nose, throat) - they are specialists and most speak English - there is usually at least one ENT clinic in EACH neighbourhood.....
If its more of a problem with your lungs and chest (bronchitis etc) - just go to a normal GP doctor to get your diagnosis and medication.....
trust me - you will be surprised - how well they converse with you, diagnose you and treat you....
If you have medical insurance it should cost you 2,500 won - Without medical insurance then it should cost 8,000 ~ 12,000 for the doctor and 6,000~12,000 won for the medication (based on a 2~3 day medication prescription) - Of course you will have to keep going back each 2~3 days for 2 weeks until you are completely cured...
**If your employer NEVER gave you medical insurance then hit the employer up for half the cost of the doctors visits and medication...
Anyway - any doctor should be fine for you - as long as you don't act like an idiot and just explain your symptons and chat about it to the doctor - usually they are happy to chat in English with you - its kindoff like a special difference from their regular korean patients - and they will do the best to help you... |

I always go to the International Clinic at Asan Medical Center. The doctors and nurses are fluent in English. If you require services from a specialist a nurse will escort you to the correct department and translate if the doctor doesn't speak English. However, every time I've gone all of the doctors were fluent. You can use health insurance or pay a premium if you don't have it.
