The author of "Angela's Ashes" and "'Tis" has a new nonfiction book out called "Teacher Man" as I saw in the top ten list of nonfiction best sellers in the US, in the IHT paper today.
Anybody find this book yet? I figure it won't be in Korea for a while, but am looking forward to it. I really enjoyed his other two. And the movie for "Angela's Ashes" was good too. And his brother Macauly (sp.?) wrote a good one too, called "A Monk Swimming."
God love the Irish, heartrending expressers of the dark and sublime. |

Sorry,
Was thinking more of Yeats perhaps? |

Frank's little brother is called "Malachi" but I don't know how to pronounce it. If it's the last book of the Old Testament, it's usually pronounced "MAL-eck-eye" but I wonder if the Irish name isn't pronounced "Mul-ACK-ey." Best get a second opinion. I loved "A Monk Swimming." Filthy and funny. |

Well, I'm Irish, and Malachy is my father's name, so you won't get a much better pronunciation coach on this issue!!!!
The modern Irish pronunciation is "Mal-ah-kee". |

Ah yes, Malachy. That sounds right. Easy to confuse unfamiliar names. He told quite a story, didn't he, about some crazy things he did.
"Angela's Ashes" was sad, but you could tell it was great even if you read it before it was hailed as great. A Korean girl had that book years ago and let me borrow it.
I found the guy's writing and style really enjoyable. He had quite a time in his youth, making it a story worth telling when told well. |

Angela's Ashes was well worth a read. I'll have to check out his new one. |
