Hey,
Just wondering if anyone has worked for an English village (esp Ansan..?), and how the experience was? Much different to the regular Hagwon experience?
Just would like to get a bit of feedback if anyone has any advice etc...? |

These immersion villages are becoming so popular that whenever the govt plans to open one up in an area, all of the local hogwans start to sweat.
For example, Geochang currently has about 3-4 hogwans employing about 6-7 teachers. The government announced last week that they are dropping about $3-4 million on setting up an english village in this sleepy little burg of 60,000, an hour west of Daegu, which will employ, at least 6 foreign teachers to start. Another one in Jinhae was announced, as well.
As for feedback on Ansan Village, there's an older thread on that.
But that shouldn't be enough to sum things up for you. With that many people working there, I'm sure that the school or recruiter should be able to provide some contact info for teachers that you can talk to. Try to see if you can get contact info of someone who is there now, as well as someone who may be leaving, just for contrast. The little extra research efforts like this, can sometimes make the difference between having a good year or lousy year in Korea. |

I applied and eventually interviewed for a new one that is opening but I think they passed me up because he says they want someone with more singing/dancing experience. However, with all of my ten plus years as a lead vocalist for a band and countless theatre and film credits I think it may be because I have narcolepsy. But, who knows. All I know is the setup seemed incredible with every resource you could possibly imagine to make the most spellbinding lessons ever. Robotics courses, video production, with top notch equipment, studios, the works. I am very bummed they passed me up. |

Hey muckhead......
Hope the right job comes along for you. Yeah, i hope I am lucky to have got this job. It sounds to be good! But, because it's so different from my previous experiences in Korea, that could be a really good thing, or a disaster!
It's sort of hard to know what to expect, like when you are used to the hagwon formula......I really hope it is a great experience. I can only go in with an open mind, and hope for the best! No job is ever going to be perfect anywhere, never mind Korea.
I'm sure something will turn up for you, keep on applying. It's taken me ages to get a job this time round, then i got offered 5 at once! That's the way it goes......
Will let you kow if it's good, as so often we only hear the horror stories! |
