You know as you travel around you come across lots of claims to fame. The longest, the shortest, the highest etc etc. Was wondering what we could come up with.
I can think of the following off hand that I've come across:
The tallest building in THE WORLD! In Taipei, Taipei 101.
The most southerly point in SOUTH EAST ASIA.......thats on sentosa in Singapore (not so special)
The most easterly point in AUSTRLIA - Mount Warning (imaginativly named by captain cook because it served as a, well, as a warning).
The steepest road in THE WORLD - in Dunedin, NEW ZEALAND
Is this a lame duck?
Of course, they can get dubious - I went to a national park in Jervis Bay, NSW which claimed to have the beach with the WHITEST SAND in THE WORLD. Also, Boracay Island in the Philippines which is self proclaimed to be the BEST BEACH in the WORLD. |

La Paz, Bolivia calls itself the highest capital city in the world.
It is close to Lake Titicaca, which is the highest lake in the world.
Close on the Peruvian side of the border is the highest railroad in the world. |

hate to be a know-it-all but you are wrong..
I went to school in murwillumbah, maybe 20 mins drive east from Mt. Warning and I was east of that, so that should put me in the ocean, right???
The most easterly point is actually Cape Byron at byron bay..
Mt. Warning gets to see the sun first but because it is over 1000 metres high it sees it before Byron... |

Highest mountains in both the ROK and Japan. (Yep, big deal.) Hallasan and Fuji.
Deepest lake in the world - Baikal, Siberia. (Holds almost 20% of the world's freshwater.)
Most westerly part of Canada - Queen Charlotte Islands. (I wasn't at the most westerly point though. I was on the east side of the island.) |

The worst beers in the world are O.B. and (S)Hite; Cass is a close second. |

Right right! Now I remember. The top of Mt Warning is the first place to RECEIVE LIGHT in AUSTRALIA. Try and beat that one! Of course thinking about it now, its difficult for a mountain to be a 'most easterly point'. Feel free to abuse me. |

I'll go with "Taiwan" beer or almost any beer in Taiwan. I thought some of the Thai ones were nasty too. |
