Intially thinking of travelling to okinawa, but in view of the shogatsu, decided not to. Now planning to visit Korea tentatively between 30th Dec to 4th Jan. Backpack travelling, does not drive and so will take public transport.
highlights of itinerary is
1. seoul
2. panmunjeon
3. mt seorak
skipping mt taebaek due to inaccessibility. unless someone here is going to strongly discouraged me from not going. heard that there is shamanist ceremony on the 1st Jan. but i'm also going to see seollal on the 1st Jan, likely at sokcho's sunrise park. initially thinking of going naksansa but heard it is just burnt down in this april.
i will put up my itinerary later so that hopefully someone can help in giving me some guidances. |

Well its gonna be cold -- pack layers.
Seollal is actually january 29 this year but lots of folks turn out to watch the sunrise on new years day january 1 in Sokcho. (Me, I'll be sleeping.)
Seorak is lovely in all seasons, & a good portion of Naksansa went unscathed in the fire -- still worth a visit.
I know the NE corner of the country quite well if you want more details. |

i see. u mean the chinese had the same calender with the koreans?
for someone who is from a country that is 25-35 deg C 24hrs a day, 365 days a year, all the time, i certainly yearn for some snow-pack freezy place.
i've prep a singlet, a quality thermal, a fleece and a gortex shell. should be able to withstand -5 to -10C. however, it is always the gloves that is the problem - it can't be thin enough and still insulate well. got to get some warming oil... |
