The phrases that were drilled most sucessfully into my head were "ouvrez la porte" and "fermez la porte" ( meaning open the door and close it)
At the time, I thought those phrases were nearly useless, but now, working in a school with unheated hallways, I wish I'd had the foresight to beat them into my own students heads.
