Is it possible to buy ovens (perhaps portable, or smaller sized) for the kitchen?
If so, any idea as to how much they would cost?

Go to any houseware shop, department store, or major supermarket and you will find what you are looking for.
The lowest price I have ever seen was 300,000 for a full size oven. |

Toaster ovens can be found for as little as W30,000 and do a decent job on things such as roasted veggies, potato wedges, fish, chicken [white meat that shall not be named], etc.
Full-size models range from W300,000 or so for the broiler-on-the-bottom style to W550,000 and up for the versions that have the broilers on the top (where Koreans seem to prefer it). I got one for W270,000 a couple of months back at an E-Mart grand opening, so it is possible to get them for under W300,000. You just have to be willing to wait and shop around. |

| Nothing like a good convection oven. But it depends how long you're going to stay here and how much baking you'll really do. I don't much like trying to bake with a toaster oven but really I'm impressed how well I can make do. |

two years with an oven is alot better than the first year without.
I have seen used full sized ovens for 100,000-150,000 |

| I love my oven. If you're going to be here awhile, don't buy the cheapest oven out there -- you do get what you pay for, up to a point. If you're here for one year and then out, different story. |

A friend has a convection over, that she paid 100,000 for. Got it thru an LG catalog. Workd fantastic, bakes/roasts chicken, and makes great baked potatoes and cakes.
I have a table top oven with controlls that bakes and broils. I make bread in it allthe time. Cost 60,000 won from Caraafore 3 years ago. (forgot how to spell it). Makes a large loaf of bread, a roast chicken (cooked a 9 lb turkey in it the first year that I got at Hanams).
Somes you may not be able to hook up a large oven, but if u have 100l000 won a convection oven is a great deal. |

I don't usually have regrets about roads not taken, but when I look back at the last three years here in Korea, I seriously wish I'd bought an oven.
I'm planning to stay where I am for only another six months and yet today I've the urge more than ever.
Must resist... |

| The inconveniences of living in Korea are a lot more tolerable on a stomach full of home-made bread or roast chicken, or a nice hot casserole. Christmas wouldn't be Christmas without a turkey and gingerbread. |

Well-spoken, and VI as well. I inherited (as happens frequently in these parts) a 'combo' oven. It'll do toaster oven and microwave. Given these miniscule Korean kitchens, that might be the one to shop for. |

I got my eye on a counter top model at Costco right now... its an electric convection oven... no burners on top... kind of like a glorified toaster oven. Its got enough room for a 12 inch pizza... and tall enough to fit in a good size chicken to roast... its going for 160,000.
I'm pretty sure I'm going to pick it up next time I'm at Costco... not sure if they would have the same model at a different Costco store though... |

I'm not sure about Gwangju, but I'm in Seoul. Since I used to live in Jeollanamdo, the challenge would be getting it down there. So you might be better off with something smaller. I bought a full sized stove/oven at a used appliance shop in the Yongsan area of Seoul for around 100,000.
I have to admit it's nice having a full sized stove/oven again
