| I am interested on getting feedback on these two cities in regards to the availability an ease of public transportation and also on the accessability of outdoor recreation outside of the beach. For example mountains etc. |

Busan is the best place to live in South Korea.
Ulsan is another place.
It's like Daegu, Daejeon, Incheon, Mokpo, Kwangju, and a thousand other places in this respect. It's like Seoul, for that matter. It's not Busan, and thus isn't where you want to be.
If you're going to be in South Korea, you want to be in Busan.
END OF STORY!

Busan by a long way...
Ulsan is an industrial port city which is virtually run by Hyundai and the whole city revolved around shipmaking and car manufacturing....that just said it all..
Busan, while hardly on the scale in the top 1000 world cities is a lot more cosmopolitan and has a lot more to offer.... |

| Busan, Busan, Busan! If you move to Ulsan, you will just end up having to come to Busan to get what you need and eat at good restaurants. So just live in Busan! |

| I came to Ulsan for the job, which is good, so I don't totally regret it. But Ulsan has a lot of cons - people who act like they've never seen a caucasian before (this is particularly bad if you're blond), having to go to Busan for things like shopping, and the city is just generally boring. Unless you get offered some fantastic position in Ulsan, look for a job in Busan. |

Before coming to Korea I did a lot of websurfing to get info on cities and regions of Korea to find a good fit for me, and decided I wanted to live near Busan (but not in the city, as I'm not into subways and urban daily commuting).
Ulsan looked like a good locale, on the coast too.
Then I read post, after post after post, on website after website, telling me... Ulsan stinks!
Statistically one of the worst air polluted cities in the country.
So I looked southward and ended up on Geoje Island |

| How do you feel about Geoje Island? The only person here I know who has lived there quit his job to get off the island, and he isn't a hagwon teacher. He's in shipbuilding. I would like to hear your take on the place. |

Hey Van I
I also read some of those posts slamming Ulsan on account of pollution.
Made a mental note to give the place a wide berth.
However, via an unintended, circuitous route, I found myself in selfsame place. After 8 months I can vouch that the skies are uncommonly blue.
My information is that the city was selected for hosting the polluting industries, because of the prevailing winds. They do the job, I think.
In contrast to Daegu, which has a regular brown hue at any given moment. Ulsan is less polluted than unsuspected places like KwangYang, which is adjacent to a steel factory.
In any case, as we are generally only temporary sojourners, a few years of defilement can't do too much harm. The Koreans themselves don't look any the worse for it. |

| I'd say Bulsan. Bulsan sounds more manly. Ulsan sound more like take it in the butt. |
