A sore throat has to be the WORST.
Particularly if you have to talk all bleedin' day.

I think one of those non-stop coughs that won't let you sleep is worse than the sore throat or runny nose. |

That's nothing. Try teaching when you have the trots. |

Teaching with a sore throat is not that bad provided you already have good classroom management in place and the kids know what to expect and what you expect. It can actually be rather fun. I hate losing my voice because I love talking so much that I miss being able to talk to myself. However, I love seeing how the kids do without the teacher being able to talk. Sometimes, the shy ones, the ones that never talk above a whisper, find their voices.
Teaching with a bad cold that screws up your pronunciation, now that is what I hate. Impossible to get the kids to take you seriously when you cannot pronounce several important consonants. Oh, the giggles. THey try so hard to think of questions that will involve my giving answers that will invariably use THOSE particular sounds that I cannot make.
Teaching with a bad cough. Hmmm...well, I just pretend like I can't speak because I don't like the coughing to get out of control.
Teaching with a headache. Argh, I hate that. I get headaches a lot and sometimes I cannot get them under control. I can always change the lesson plan a bit, switch some days around so I have a quiet lesson, but I hate doing that to the kids. They are very nice about keeping the noise down even during break time when the headaches are really bad.
I think I'd have to say that teaching with a bad cold is the worst. You have a fever. You ache. Your eyes hurt. You likely have a headache along with it from all the sinus pressure. You want so desperately to blow your nose WITH RESULTS. you want to go home and go to bed but you know that the sinus pressure would be even worse so you stay at work anyway. Hate colds. |
