Hey all
Now that I am going to Thailand and not Canada, I just encountered something that I am hoping that some of you experienced travellers can help with.
So I am planning to do Thailand, Cambodia and Vietnam and I have 5 weeks off. I just tried to get a plane ticket but apparently if you want to go for longer than 1 month you have to pay 300,000 won more as then it is good for a year. WOW I have never heard of that.
I really don't want to come back a week early as it seems to be a waste of vacation, but 300,000 more seems outrageous. So here are my thoughts, I have to stop in Hong Kong , do you think that they would let me do that and maybe stay there for a few days or what if I were to try to change my departure date to later once I got there, does anyone know if that would be cheaper or even possible?
This is really annoying. Any thoughts would be appreciated. |

Sadly changes can be done in the one month period only. |

1)There is the possibility/likelihood of hassle at immigration if you enter Thailand on a one way ticket rather than a return.
2)2 one ways work out slightly more expensive than a return. |

Although there is always that possibility, I've done it several times and never ever had a problem. The tourism industry would suffer immensely if they started demanding proof of return tickets.
Besides, a second one way (assuming you woudl also purchase that before hand) would count as proof of leaving. A return or a one way out doesn't matter, same-same.

But perhaps cheaper than the +300,000 that the OP is looking at for a 5 week-er???
I would say try different airlines - not all airlines have price levels at only one month and one year - there are 3 month and 6 month tickets as well. |

Thanks for all of the suggestions. I am in the process of emailing travel agents. If it doesn't work out, I will just have to make the best of the time I have there I guess.
All the best |
