Hello, I came to Korea this summer and I'll be getting my first week-long vacation soon, so I'll go to Taiwan. I haven't decided whether I'll stay in Taipei or Kaohsiung (sp?).
I'm just having trouble getting started. I researched a few websites for airfare, and the prices seemed a little high. I surfed travel websites in Korean, and the prices were a little lower, but I don't know how easy it'll be to use a foreign credit card.
What websites have you used when booking airplane tickets to other countries from Korea?
What is a reasonable price to pay for roundtrip tickets from Seoul to Taipei?
Thanks a lot! |

I nwill be going to Taipei end of Feb. for the world championships in my sport. I will hang out the week before in Taipei and though I have to "be good", will enjoy what the city has to offer.
I booked through Asiana airlines, 440,000 won return. Couldn't find anything better and found that reasonable.....www.flyasian.com/english
Good luck.

The trick with travel agents is to call around and never accept the first price they quote you.
When are you going to Taiwan Smee, maybe we can meet up. |

Thanks for your help, everyone, and for the PMs.
I'll look into the travel agency thing.
I saw tickets to Taipei for about $450 US, but it seemed a little high since my friend just went to Bangkok from Incheon for less. (But it's still cheaper than what I paid for domestic flights in the US.) And, using a few Korean websites, I found tickets for 300,000 won, but I haven't figured out how to purchase them yet. Probably when it gets closer I'll have a K-friend help me.
But if around $400-$500 is a normal range, I don't feel as anxious now.
Jackthecat, I plan to go in late April, probably the last week. Since the school's schedule isn't finalized yet, I don't know the exact dates of my vacation. Also, I haven't decided whether I want to go to Taipei or Kaohsiung (but I'm leaning toward Taipei.) |

I would recommend traveling down the east coast to Hualien or perhaps Taidong (Taitung). Taipei is pretty fun for nightlife and they certainly have more Chinese artifacts than China does in their national museum. Kaohsiung is probably a nice city but nothing special for tourism. Taiwan is subtropical but not warm enough this time of year to make a visit to the beach in Kenting worthwhile. If you're interested in temples (the chinese ones are pretty different from the Korean) you could go to Tainan, down on the west coast, which has more than any other city. But most of the natural beauty of Taiwan is on the east.
Note that railways run north to south along the coasts so there's no easy way to go from the east to the west... you sorta have to make your decision in Taipei whether you'll go down the east coast or down the west. |

300,000 is a reasonable price. I know prices vary from season to season, but when I went, it cost me 220,000 won. The 400,000 range seems extremely high. Try to find ticket prices with EVA airlines. It is usually the cheapest and it based in Taiwan. Also, I think it is a great airline, will definitely use it again. Anyways, the problem with those website is usually you have to sign up for a user name, which means that you have to be Korean. However, just get a Korean friend to help you out and you can just give them the cash and then they can book the ticket for you. Good luck. |
