|
|
Hey all!
So I thought it would be interesting if my school offered a creative writing class for our advanced students as an alternative to the standard essay writing course.
Since I was the keener who suggested the idea, I have the honours of designing the course curriculum, materials, blahblahblah....
I am looking forward to teaching the class but was hoping to pick a few brains in this forum for ideas....here's the deal: there are 8 classes (an hour and 20 minutes long each) to cover a (very) broad overview of short story writing...it's basically meant to be an intro.
I have lots of ideas and mats so far but different perpectives never hurt.
Any suggestions?
(all suggestions are greatly appreciated!!) |

| maybe some kind of group story telling thing to get them started. One person starts, and then the next person adds a sentence, etc. That should help break the ice at least. |

I teach creative writing at an Australian uni, which is obviously quite heavy, but there is something I use with my first years which can be adapted for younger learners of all English levels.
Type up a heap of objects and names and places etc and put them into a 'hat'. You beging the story...'One day I was sitting on my front porch when... and then pass the hat to the next student...each student controls the direction of the story depending on what they pulled out of the 'hat'.
Heaps of fun and gets them thinking about relationships of object?places etc.
Hope this helps! |
