Has anyone heard an expression like "He fed him sand". A student used in conversation class today and I had never heard of it.

For a non-native Englishee speaker I'm pretty familiar with English slang, but I've never heard about that before. Even google couldn't help with this one. Maybe your student was trying to make a new sentence after listening too much Queen? "Another one bites the dust!"

On a slightly related topic, one of my co-workers actually asked me recently what's the difference between "snow job" and "blow job." My girlfriend told me last night that in Korean literature, when they talk about oral sex, they use the words fellatio and cunnilingus. I told her I was pretty certain that even most anglophones wouldn't know those words. She basically failed the quiz I gave her on terms for oral sex (which I carry on me at all times).

I actually have heard this before but only three or four times, it's not an American slang term, I want to say it comes from India but I'm only guessing. Basically it can mean b******t, as in a line of BS or it can mean that you said something that really p***** him off (making someone eat sand is not a pleasant experience for the person doing the eating).
