There are lots of wives of diplomats and international execs who might well want to volunteer.

Even as a volunteer, do you have to get this on your ARC to be legal? Or get an E2 visa if you don't have one?

Some of the diplomats and permanent residents would be legal though.

It might be a really good thing if immigration busted this place and arrested a bunch of volunteer teachers who were technically illegal doing a good deed.

From what I know, if immigartion "raids" the place it's up to you to prove that you are working for free. How that can be done. Dunno.

I like how even though they are asking for volunteers they want to know your nationality and gender.

By "volunteer', do they mean "work for free"? If so, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha. Give me a farking break. I believe that even if you work for free, you are breaking the law.

I have no idea what the name of any foreign communities are. Do you people have clubs you haven't told me about?

IF, this was advertised as a camp for the poor and underprivilaged then I'm sure they would get takers, but a camp for regular folks, no way!

Qinella

How do you know this is for "regular" folk? It's supported by the SMG and looking for volunteers. You think middle classed parents are going to be tripping over themselves to throw their kids into public winter daycare?

The organizers appear to be Seoul's International Cooperation Division, an organization that deals with people like wives of diplomats and international execs.

?! Settle down please, no point getting your panties in a twist. If you knew anything about Korea and Koreans you would know that community centers offering free/cheap programs are hugely popular in Korea for all facets of society including the 'middle class'. You would also know that winter programs, or daycare as you term it, are also in huge demand.

I simply stated that if these kids are poor or somehow disadvantanged in some way then they need to advertise as such in order to get a positive response, and if they are not, who in their right mind would volunteer to teach them?

In relation to Seoul's International Cooperation Division, it is a wide ranging department that deals with the following;
Quote:
. Reinforce Seoul's diplomatic capabilities

 Facilitate intracity mayoral visits

Promote effective, practical and sustainable exchanges

 Initiate new sister city relationships

Increase level of cooperation between international
organizations

2.Institute changes to place Seoul on par with top rating international cities

Initiate programs to enhance citizens' English communication
skills

 Establish high quality international schools

Expand Seoul Help Center for Foreigners' and increase its services offerings

Provide avenues for increased expatriate involvement in policy making process

Make Seoul Friendship Fair into a world-class festival

3.Support domestic corporations' entrance into foreign markets and attract foreign investment

 Create a competitive investment environment

Dispatch Global Investment Promotion and Market Development Teams

 Participate in overseas exhibitions

Offer intensive support for Chinese market development projects

Support small to medium businesses' entrance into the international market

Support high-tech industry development and international cooperation

The end

No, idiot. You stated "Do they really believe anyone is going to volunteer for this?" Given this ad was run under the aegis of a metro department that deals with the international business/diplomatic crowd, I would imagine they're hoping for people living in Korea (like wives) who want to take a few weeks and interact with children.

I know you can't imagine anyone doing work for free with children but that doesn't mean there aren't a lot of kind foreigners in this city with extra time who would want to work with a metro organization tasked with the job of spreading the joy around. Do you act in total disbelief or chuckle uncontrollably when Korean orphanages put out a call for volunteer workers from the foreign community and wonder why anyone would do work for no money?

The part about "..send us your resume" is the severity that outweighs any parts that speak about joy.
