I've known since the beginning that I would be teaching these classes, so that isn't the problem. The problem is that tomorrow is the last day of this term and the vacation classes will start Jan. 4. I've asked about dividing the boys into ability groups and there seems to be agreement that it would benefit the boys.

What is bothering me is that no one has registered the boys. We don't know how many are coming...and more importantly for my lesson planning, we don't know who is coming. I can't figure out if I should expect only the better students or if I should spend hours and hours making lessons for really low ability students who may not sign up.

So for now, I just sit around wasting time and then during the vacation classes go through the stress of making last minute lesson plans if those are needed.

My whine: Why is 'plan' a four-letter word?

If I were you I'd have movies in the first few days and plan some stuff up then as the kids are watching them. My problem is that our archaic setup only plays VCDs and therefore I have huge problems with movies which kinda need subtitles for them. Ho hum, I'll muddle through.

With a full month of lessons (ie. 20) u think I should do fun stuff, or do a book? (I doubt my school will give me ANY cash, they have no english budget for some reason).

oh don't worry.... even if they make a plan they'll change it. Today I heard that we would be teaching 4 classes, then it was two. Now it's one.

Gotta love organization here.

f you have a computer in the classroom hooked up to the TV, copy the VCD onto the computer, then use GOM player to find the Korean subtitles. They have a mssive collection and unless it's an obscure movie you should find what you need.

"Winter special class

Change the number of you & other teachers' class.
Many students will cut a lecture~. so we will operate only one class each grade. and The lecture of freshmen is for nothing. but you will receive 300.000 your 18 class. 300,000 is the saved money that you singed some days ago. < The korean teacher is no pay>
and The class of the first grade will be one time every day. you will receive 20,000 per class. < the Korean teacher do the same> you will have 14 class.
sorry to change the original plan. Don't misunderstand.

p.s) (1) This plan will be able to change according to weather or schedules of school...
(2) I ask you to tell your class is not special class but English camp."

Well now that that's all cleared up.... Rolling Eyes

I am not paid extra at all for the classes that I'll be teaching, even though Korean teachers are, what a joke. What really pisses me off is that all of a sudden I'm supposed to teach 3 days a week compared to 1 day last winter. And the sad thing is that it's just a time killer for these students. They have their "regular classes" in the morning and then are obligated to spend the rest of the afternoon at school so they come to my class and chant "VIDEO VIDEO". None of them are level tested, some can't even answer a simple "How are you today". What a complete joke, yet I'm expected to teach them now THREE times a week? Last year's supervisor was super-cool and said the other days I could quietly stay home, yet this new supervisor said matter of factly that I should come here everyday. Yeah right, she's not going to be there so I sure as hell won't be either.

Actually it's a bit difficult too explain offhand but grab yourself a student, they all seem to know how to do it.

After having been in Korea for three years and having been bent over the barrel before, I got the initial plans for the winter camp put in writing and signed by one of higher ups two months ago, with words to te effect that the plans meet my contract obligations.

Now that they are trying to throw all this extra shit at me at the last minute, I just pulled out the sheet, and said you want extra teaching, then give me extra money.

Surprisingly enough, it worked.

Hey!

There has been a victory of sorts. 90 minutes before vacation begins I was handed the list of students who registered for my vacation classes.

Now I know what to plan for. Confused

Next project: Pry loose the information about which room I'll be teaching in and whether I'll be having one 90 minute class with no break or two 50 minute classes with a break.
