Ages ago I downloaded the 3 part children of Dune sci-fi special and am now watching it. I'm enjoying it as much as I did the 3 part Dune series. I hope the do the rest of the books as well. This is an excellent series and is finally getting put on to film in a good way. |

I missed the Children of Dune when it came on back in the States but I remember watching Dune on the Sci-Fi and enjoyed it. It almost made me want to read the books. |

What's the order of the books? I read "Dune" but people told me the others were crap so I never read them. What's #2 in the series? |

The series wasn't bad but the fremen didn't seem very fierce. I guess it's hard to make your Hungarian extras look like great warriors. Children of Dune totally punted on the Leto becomes a sandworm thing at the end. |

Dune
Dune Messiah (Paul as messiah, trying to control his jihad and god hood)
Children of Dune (Paul's twin children carry on his plan)
God Emperor of Dune (About 10,000 years after Children. There are no more sandworms. Leto is a sandworm and tries to put humans on the golden path, making sure humans can never be wiped out.)
Heritics of Dune (After the death of Leto people ran to the galactic hills. Now they are returning to the old empire, led by a group of super fast sex witches who start to kill every planet that opposes them. What are they running from? Ohhhh mystery!)
Chapterhouse Dune (Continues the narrative. How do the bene gesserit, who kind of now rule the old empire, live in peace with the sex witches? And just what are the sex witches running from? The novel sort of wraps up the whole series, with a hint that bene hwanglexalu or whatever will reboot the whole series on another planet with their cloning techniques. Never does answer the question what the sex witches were running from. But the thing with Herbert is he wrote like the movie Jaws built tension. He understood things were better left unsaid. He hinted at cool things. He didn't frog march you to every brilliant idea he had.)
Slaughterhouse Dune (Doesn't exist. But Brian Hebert and snuff fan fiction writer Kevin J Anderson are supposed to be continuing the series. I'm not looking forward to that.)
In sum, the other novels after Dune are pretty decent. However, one should not confuse them with the Brian Herbert/K.J. Anderson vomit.
Frank's son and Kevin J Anderson who only writes CRAP star wars novels teamed up and wrote a bunch of prequel novels. They're the worst fan fiction crap on the planet. Anderson and Herbert not only get every important detail about the Dune universe wrong but they seem to believe Dune readers want to read snuff. Every other chapter they go on at length about how various evil people torture people to death. Don't waste your money on that crap.
When people pointed out to them they got all these important details wrong, like Duncan Idaho had a sister they never mention and Gurney Halleck isn't supposed to have met Jessica when he was a teenager and crap, Herbert/Anderson always refer to secret back story notes Frank left Brian...
Yeah. |

I'm reading the "House Atredies" post-mortum prequil to the Dune series now.
I was a bit disappointed with parts, but overall it keeps me interested. the writin style does lack a certain flair that was in the original series, but it's still not bad.
I've only read the first 3 of the original Dune series.
I loved Dune, I thought numer 2 was crappy and way too short, number 3 was a much better read.
I saw the movie years ago......and I can see why people were dissapointed with it. They tried to include things from the whole series in one movie and it came across being confusing and overblown, but I still liked it. |

Saturday I noticed a hardcover version of Dune Messiah was for sale at What the Book. If you're interested in reading the rest of the series, zip down there. A great deal. |

Just bought the Children of Dune DVD set and am currently watching them. Loved the original and now grovin' to the new trilogy. I read reviews saying that the Computer graphics were crap, but they look fine to me. No worse than the orginal series!
Bummed me out when they killed Chani though...I didn't have time to read the books so sue me! Besides all the good books become movies at some point right? |

Ok just finished up Children of Dune. Damn disappointing if I may say. Paul dies? and I thought the Leto worm thing would be more interesting. He's just a guy with scales for god's sake! Low budget piece of !?#&!!! |

Yo!Chingo,
I think I should explain some of this since you said you hadn't read the books. In the first three books, we see what happens in the two movies you just watched. Yes, Paul goes blind and heads into the desert and returns later when his children are older as the preacher or whatever he's called. He does die in the books, as does Chani, and we see their two children fighting for power against their mad aunt Alia and other forces. Leto decides, as he does in the movie, to put together a suit of the little jellyfish type baby makers and by the end of the third book looks exactly as the movie shows him: a guy with a weird suit. It's only in the fourth book which jumps ahead a few thousand years that Leto actually becomes a giant worm with his face in the middle of the worm's mouth. The whole series is really good and pretty complicated and you should definitely read the books if you thought the movies were any good. I actually like the sci-fi tv versions because I thought they stayed pretty close to the real story and that was good for me. The acting was horrible but well, that's the price you pay sometimes to get a campy sci-fi movie done. |

Yo!Chingo,
I just thought of a question for you! I bought the first movie from Sci-fi TV here in Korea (though I had seen it back home) but I haven't been able to find Children of Dune here. Is it available in Korea? If you bought it here, where did you find it?
Thanks! |

Sorry but I didn't get it in Korea. Bought it off of Amazon for $10! What a deal for a 3 parter and picked it up while I was home. I don't know if they'll ship it overseas but if not you could have it shipped to someone and then they could ship it to ya.
BTW thanks for the info about the 4th installment. I have a few of the books, not in any order, and I think I skimmed one of them which described Leto as a worm. I was expecting that in the 3rd installment of Children of Dune. |

No. At the end of the third book he's been highly transformed. He's not a sandworm yet but he's a hulk, able to pick up space ships and proof against lasguns. That was not depicted in the tv movie and I think a lot of people wanted to see the transformed Leto. It was a rather hard and disturbing image to conceive of when read. |
