Toronto has pretty much turned into a shooting gallery.
Quote: |
Gunfire broke out amid hundreds of shoppers seeking Boxing Day deals along a downtown Toronto street, killing a teenager girl and wounding at least six other people.
Police officers said they arrested two young men and seized a gun. They weren't immediately sure whether the gunfire was linked to the gang violence behind a number of fatal shootings in Toronto in 2005.
The shootings occurred at 5:20 p.m. EST Monday in the core of Toronto's downtown shopping district, on Yonge Street about two blocks north of the Eaton Centre shopping mall.
For hours after the shooting, at least three blocks of Yonge Street remained cordoned off with yellow police tape.
Police officials said they were stunned by the brazenness of the attack.
"I'm tremendously angry," said Toronto Police Chief Bill Blair.
"There is no rational explanation for such behaviour. It is so outrageous, so callous, totally disregarding of the lives and safety of other people in this city."
Blair said early investigation suggested that the gunfire sprang from a fight between two young men.
He said police would be combing through tapes from video surveillance cameras along the strip.
The girl, whose name and age have not been released publicly, was declared dead in hospital.
Officers initially said four other people were wounded, but later boosted that toll to six and said two of them had serious injuries.

Yeah, sucks doesn't it.
I have to hide stuff like that from my fiance.
I still can't get over that shooting that happend at the funeral last month.
Where do you think it comes from? ... hip hop; single parents; video games; lack of opportunity for "those" people; good old stupidity; or is it just inevitable to have such things in a big, cosmoplitan city?
Music and video games seems like a lame excuse. I never buy the "lack of opportunity" crap. Hey, I've seen plenty of successful people from "that" target group. If they can succeed, why can't everyone else.
Single parents? No. But perhaps people should have to take a test before they are allowed to reproduce. |

Toronto still has only 71 Murders as of this week, of which 51 were gun related. The only reason everyone is suddenly appalled, is the location of a couple of incidents. Once Dundas square was built it became a hang-out for drug dealers and criminals.
Im curious why; when a young black girl was killed in the driftwood area it was not that big a deal. Now, the shopping district is the area of the crime it a huge issue. |

Of the 51 shooting in Toronto this year, 50 have been (sorry, maybe 49) have been commited by a certain group. It would be rude for to mention said group, as that would be racist. |
