Its working.

Good teachers or bad, we're all making an indelible impact on the average young Korean's relationship with english. I see determination & effort on the part of Koreans.

This country, for the most part, will become widely communicative in english within the next 10 years.

I think in 10-15 years ~15% of the population will speak English pretty well. Assuming the current English crazy doesn't go bust.

Interesting...

When did Korea start this "English project"?

Is it relatively new to have all us "lazy" "unsuccessful" "womanizers" around here?

I've been here 3 years. The longest serving posters on Dave's seem to be around the 10 year mark.

Just when did it start?

I've got a few friends that have been here since the late 80s, but I'd guess the big boom started around 10-12 years ago

I think the EPIK and school programmes are paying off. The kids aren't the only people improving their English in my school.

The English teachers are getting much better in terms of stopping transliteration etc. I think a foreign presence in school also peaks interest in the language. Small steps for sure, but slowly they're getting better. Smile

It is back slapping time for us English teaching folks.

Koreans are getting better and better at speaking English. I meet a lot more Koreans with a much higher level of both competence and confidence in using English. They're doing very well with our help.

This is the start of my fourth contract in Korea and I've really noticed it over the years. Many Koreans are getting better and better and a lot of it due to us lot Very Happy
