Hi guys,

We're making countries in school and tomorrow we're making flags. I am going over the meanings of flags with the kiddies.

One of them is the US flag. I know the stars represent the states, what do the stripes mean?

Thanks!

13 original states

It became obvious as time went on that adding a stripe for every state was going to make for a really odd looking flag so they scrapped that and kept with the tradition of adding a new star for every state and limited the stripes to 13.

I believe the blue is for liberty, the white is for courage, and the red is for the blood of our victims. No wait a minute, that's not right...

ok, let the wetback tell you, as i had to take the citizenship exam...

the 13 stripes symbolize the 13 original colonies...

and the red is the blood shed during the rev war, hardness, and valor and the white is purity of mind/spirit, and blue is justice.

oh....jesus yes, im with you then.

dos tacos in kangnam is pretty good, but its nothing like the stuff the illegals made in arizona. 3 bucks for the special post 9/11 'firefiter burrito': loaded with refried beans, carne asada, guacomole, pico de gallo, and cheese.

damn.

Blue is the Celestial Mandate of Heaven bestowed upon Freedom. The stripes are the original colonies. The stars are the various states.

In some ways a kind of 18th century concoction of questionable esthetics, yet beautiful if you created it at home while battling the world's most fominable imperialistic power. We all find it touching in its simplistic design, or I would hope so.

It seems to represent world imperialism now, which is extremely sad.

Secretly I think the reason we never admitted Puerto Rico as a state is that 51 is a prime number and nobody could figure out how to arrange the stars in that little blue box.

You mean rebelling against your rightful government and your own kin across the sea. But it's not too late to set things right. Acknowledge the Queen as your lawful sovereign!

Think about this:
What if the King had agreed to taxation with representation?
